Area effect spells/weapons Submitted by Njal on Sun, 20/01/2013 – 19:02
Hi,
I have been re-reading the rules trying to determine if there are any rules for area effect weapons or spells. I can’t seem to find anything.
I know that in the case of attacking a group of lesser opponents you could consider that area effect, but what I’m wondering is how to attack say your own opponent and another pc’s opponent with a single attack. This would have implications on how resolution points are allocated etc but for me it is a hard sell to say it’s just not allowed in the system.
Other than that I really like the new version. It is much cleaner and more fun than the old system.

Just do it

IMO the rules basically say: If it fits your story and if your players have fun, then simply do it.
You could note the resolution points for each opponent. So one attacker would cause RPs on multiple targets. But remember that the opponents could do the same. If you have a fight between 5 PCs and 5 NPCs you would have to create 5×5 matrix. For my taste that would be far to difficult to keep track. Therefore there is the “Free for alls” rule in HQ2. It says even though everybody fights everybody and last character standing wins, it is easier to do a regular contest. Simply break it down in dual contests. I would handle it in a way that I describe the area effects but would not consider them with RPs. Consider it collateral damage.
