The Blue Moon and the Lunar Way

Posted on May 23, 2024

So there have been some questions about why the Blue Moon is not in the Lunar Way. The answer is that it is in the Darkness Book. Here’s my reasons why:

The Blue Moon is something of a footnote to the Lunar Way. Most recognize that she is associated with the Red Goddess and has some ties to Jakaleel, but that’s about the extent of it. She does have a cult in First Blessed, with some 16k worshipers, but that is mostly north of the Acos River near the Blue Moon Plateau.

The center of the Blue Moon cult in central Genertela is on the Blue Moon Plateau itself, where it is an important troll cult with almost 50k followers.

From Mythology by Katrin Dirim

Elsewhere, the Blue Moon is an important cult in Teshnos, Fonrit, and Zamokil. I’ve not yet worked out the Pamaltelan cult distribution numbers, but we are easily looking at 100k+ in total.

To me, that puts it pretty squarely in the Darkness rather than the Lunar Way. Additionally, it is a Gods Age cult unlike every other cult in the Lunar Way book.

A similar if easier decision was posed by Yelm. The Yelm cult is closely tied to the Lunar Empire and the Lunar Way. Heck, we could easily view the Lunar Empire as the worshipers of Sun and Moon, like some fictional Mesoamerican realm. But the Yelm cult obviously belongs in the Solar Book, which I guess otherwise could have been Celestial Gods without the Sun.
