The city of Alone was founded about 40 years as a colony for Tarshite refugees fleeing from the Lunar Empire. It was built by the rulers of Sartar, who were skilled stonemasons. The city is built at the edge of civilization, and several days travel from the nearest city (hence the name Alone).
The city is built in a virgin valley, originally grasslands and woodlands. Along its west side is a low hill (Temple Hill – by now you ought to know that is a really common thing for settlements!). The city covers about 35 hectares, but with a population of only 1200 people, much of the city is fields and grassland.
The city is not particularly prosperous, and travelers must travel through dark forests to get here.
