This is another one of those posts about scale. Pavis County and Sun Dome County are where New Pavis, the Big Rubble, and the Sun Dome Temple of Prax are located. It is a ribbon of arable land about 120 km long and maybe 50 km wide.
That’s not very big. That’s about the size of Owens Valley in California, smaller than the San Luis Valley in Colorado or the Middle Rio Grande in New Mexico.
The total population there is about 45,000 people or about 7.5 people per square kilometre. This does not include the nomads who follow Argrath.
The biggest cult in the valley is Ernalda and the Grain Goddesses. The north half of the valley is dominated by the Orlanth cult, the southern half of the valley by Yelmalio and the Sun Dome Temple. Both cults are about equal sized. Life-giving Zola Fel comes in a distant fourth.
Nor does that population include the Elder Races of the Big Rubble.
The northern half of the valley was underpopulated until Dorasar arrived around 1550, with waves of settlers from Sartar. Prior to that, the Big Rubble was the main human settlement in the north, as the Troll Occupation had only recently ended. At the time, I suspect the southern half of the valley had most of the human population, settled in villages clustered around the old Sun Dome Temple.
Over the last 70 years, the northern half of the valley (Pavis County) has been settled by farmers from Dragon Pass and beyond. Most are from Sartar, but there is a significant minority from Talastar, Carmania, and the Redlands, settled there during the Lunar Occupation.
