The Butchers Guild is found throughout Dragon Pass – these are the people trained to properly slaughter and butcher livestock (cattle and sheep – not pigs, horses, chickens, etc.) as food. It is a small guild, and full members are initiates of the Butcher, called Waha by the Praxians. You can find them in every city of Sartar, usually closely associated with the Cattle Women.
Priests also kill animals as part of worship ceremonies. For larger ceremonies, profession butchers are often hired prepare the animals for consumption. Despite that, the cult is pretty small – maybe 250 full members in all of Sartar, although far more people have training as apprentices and associates.
Most Sartarites know that the chief god of the Praxian tribes is Waha the Butcher, and Praxians are often hired to slaughter cattle and sheep.
Waha is known as a livestock butchery god throughout the Theyalan lands. But as the Butcher God he is more of a Spirit Cult than the cult of khans and shamans we know and love in Prax.
Is there a Stonemasons Guild in Dragon Pass? Yes. Closely associated with Sartar. There is a very small sculptors guild, closely associated with the stonemasons guild. Wilms is their patron god.
Now we use the term “guild” but we could have used plenty of other terms. Many guilds are largely hereditary.
Do the Orlanthi and Praxians have any taboos on what food and meat they can and can’t eat? The Orlanthi disdain goat meat. The Praxians won’t touch horse meat.
Why pigs are excluded? Many reasons, but it basically boils down to the pigs are not children of EIritha AND that pigs are usually slaughtered and prepared by farmers.
I presume that the cattle women are Uraldans? How closely related is the Uralda cult to Eiritha? Uralda is an older name for Eiritha. Most people in Dragon Pass call her Eiritha.
