So it is only about 70 km from Furthest to Filichet, at least as the vrok hawk flies. That’s not very far – that’s less than the distance between London and Oxford, or between Denver and Fort Collins.
Filichet is the residence of the Queen of Holay, and as a tribal religious and political center predates the Conquering Daughter. Holay was part of Jannisor’s Alliance and was loosely allied with the Kynnelfing Alliance in the Second Wane. After Hwarin Daltippa stormed Mirin’s Cross in 1347, she continued and finally halted at Filichet, where she took the Helmet of Perides and accepted the submission of many chieftains.
In the Third and Fourth Wanes, Filichet fell under the the influence of Tarshite King Yarandros as “Old Tarsh”. This lasted until his son Orios accidentally released the Mad Sultan in 1448. Filichet returned to Lunar alliance in 1455, and the Queen of Holay was given Mirin’s Cross and Fyllich Kwan as part of her domain.
Hon-eel founded a new Lunar city past Filichet. This became the city of Furthest, and the capital of a new Lunar Tarsh dynasty. However, that new dynasty barely got started before it was overthrown by Palashee Long Axe, who ruled from 1538-1555. When he was defeated by General Phargentes, the Lunar dynasty in Tarsh was restored. Filichet remained autonomous, indeed it was suspicious of the ambitions of King Phargentes.
In 1562, the Red Emperor reorganized the Lunar Provinces, and appointed King Phargentes as his Provincial Overseer of the various provincial clients. He assigned scribes to keep track of finances and provincial affairs. After Phargentes died, the Red Emperor appointed Appius Luxius as Provincial Overseer, and gave assigned him palaces and buildings in Mirin’s Cross as his headquarters.
For over 40 years, Mirin’s Cross has been the residence of the Provincial Overseer, who has far more imperial authority than the mere provincial ruler in Filichet, but with theoretically little direct local authority.
