What books do I need to run a RuneQuest campaign?

Posted on October 25, 2022

So I’ve said what the “canonical corpus” is for Chaosium publications. Perhaps more important – what books do I need to run a RuneQuest campaign?

This is a shorter list:

  1. The Starter Set and/or the RuneQuest core rule book. I’d recommend both myself, but of the two, the RQ core rules gives you the most to work with.
  2. The RQ Bestiary.

And that’s it. I’d suggest getting the GM Adventures pack because it gives a good starting point, introductory adventures, and a sandbox setting, but you could start elsewhere. I’d also suggest the Glorantha Sourcebook because it is filled with inspiration and cool stories, but you don’t really need it.

Again, I am not using “canon” in the sense of what players and gamemasters need to use or rely on. Just in what we are relying on and referencing in our publications.
