Yesterday we were up around the Greatway, looking at the vast mines high up in the Rockwoods. Everywhere you can see tailings from the dwarf mines.
There are many thousands of dwarves in Greatway – I’ve heard estimates of as many as 100,000 or more. But we see only a fraction of them, mainly the fearsome Iron Dwarfs. We see dwarfs more commonly near Dwarf Mine, although that might also be because it is so close to Sartar and Tarsh.
These mines are often at incredible heights, and one wonders how the dwarfs got there in the first place. The mines are no doubt incredibly productive and I do not discount the stories that the dwarfs weigh their ore on scales made of solid gold and have cloth made out of silver thread. It is known that their mines extend countless kilometers into the deep.
In the real world, we were around the Leadville Historic Mining Area and the Climax molybdenum. We were between 11,000 and 12,000 feet in all of these pictures, and some of the surrounding mountains were over 14,000.
