At some point in the Golden Age, the humans of Dragon Pass domesticated large cats and used them for hunting and herding since then. But instead of domesticating the African wildcat (or its equivalent), which weigh 3 to 4.5 kg, they domesticated a long-tailed lynx which weigh 13 to 30 kg (about the size of a Collie), and sometimes more. Their main role in herding is to protect the animals – these cats are territorial and protective of their humans and their livestock.
Unlike our cats, shadowcats are cooperative hunters, like lions, rather than solitary hunters. Domesticated shadowcats are surprisingly good at herding and hunting. They have a connection with Orlanth initiates that make them easy to train and they bond with their owners.
