Malkionism was born in the disillusionment of the Gods War. The gods of Glorantha fought among each other, degeneration was the rule, and Death came for gods and mortals, wielded by terrible gods and demons.
Malkion gave solace and found structure despite the turmoil. Beyond the gods is the imperishable, uncreated being who is the source of all existence – the Invisible God. The Invisible God can – must! – be recognized rationally; through reason humans can understand the organization and workings of the cosmos.
Now it is not possible for anyone to wield some fraction of the Invisible God’s power – but mortals can use sorcery (a natural magic) to control the runes without need of an intermediary. Lesser forms of magic include Rune magic obtained from some of the virtuous lesser deities or heroes, and spirit magic.
“Virtuous lesser deities or heroes” means those divine beings or heroes who the talars consider worthy of worship. This is usually because they are ancestors (ancestor worship is a big thing in the West), local deities or guardians, or Malkioni heroes now worshiped as Ascended Masters. For example, many Seshnegi talars claim Issaries as an ancestor, as do the Manirian Trader Princes.
