Apropos of my previous post – there’s a lot of interaction between the peoples of Dragon Pass, Prax, and the Holy Country. Many leading Sartarite families have married Esrolians, many Goldentongue merchants have made marriage alliances with whoever they can in the areas they tend to travel, and of course the House of Sartar are famed for their marriages with the Feathered Horse Queens.
There’s a lot of movement going on there – which is not surprising for a land whose patron god has Movement so prominently!
For example, thousands of Sartarites fled to New Pavis or the Holy Country in the wake of the Lunar invasions. There are some 20k Sartarites in Nochet and another 16k or more in Pavis County.
So assume your characters know something about the wider world! You can treat Nochet or New Pavis like New York City or Boston were for the 19th century Irish or Italians, perhaps romanticised (“They’ve got cars big as bars, they’ve got rivers of gold, but the wind goes right through you, It’s no place for the old”) but still present in the imagination.
Has there been much variation in regional food as a result of this recent wave of interconnection? Given that the Sartarites originally came from the Holy Country, it is pretty safe to assume that their food has always been pretty similar to what you get there. Given the importance of long-distance trade, there might even be easy access to spices.
