Notes on Sor-eel the Short

Posted on January 11, 2024

We often underestimate how significant a figure Sor-eel the Short is. A member of the Eel-arish clan, he is the nephew of Farangold, which makes him the maternal cousin of Jar-eel the Razoress. That alone would make him within the very top of Lunar society, far far far socially outranking his subordinates like Hucipites (commander of the Marble Phalanx), Sitzmag Redmoon (commander of the Antelope Lancers), and Banaryos (commander of the Silver Shields). His half-brother Bor-eel is his companion and bodyguard, and of a similar rank.

To get an idea of what this means, Sor-eel is able to demand an audience with the Red Emperor, his theoretical near-kinsman.

However, Sor-eel is not an Illuminate – he’s a retired Rune Lord of Yanafal Tarnils. He’s a practical man, an aristocratic soldier at heart.

We know that Sor-eel is married (or at least was around 1616-1621). His wife apparently had a collection of “naughty toys”(stolen by the bandit Pinfeather) – these are well-recorded in Greek and Roman sources as well. Although the Lunars feared that this would prove shocking or troubling for Sor-eel’s Praxian allies, this probably says more about Lunar-Yelmic attitudes than Praxian (or Orlanthi).
