Lord of the Four Quarters

Posted on December 16, 2024

The Red Emperor has some wonderful titles. Moonson – means literally son of the Red Goddess. Lord of the Four Quarters – means he is the ruler of the entire terrestrial world (including Dragon Pass, Seshnela, Teshnos, the Jrusteli islands, and even Pamaltela). Staff and Pillar of God – that means that he is the support and foundation for Yelm’s cosmic rule (and not the other way around). Leader of the Egi – that means that he leads the whole secretive cabal of Lunar demigods, heroes, spirits, etc. and not the other way around. Shah and Shah – a Carmanian way of saying King of Kings, but indicates he claims all the power and rights of the old Carmanian empire. The Bright and Illustrious Emperor of Dara Happa – and means he is the rightfully enthroned emperor of the Rich Lands (aka the Solar Empire).

Since 1602, Lord of the Four Quarters has become an increasingly popular title for the Red Emperor. The fall of Boldhome in 1602 and the demise of the Holy Country in 1616 has meant there are no real rivals for the Red Emperor. He need merely march his army someone for the rebellious barbarians to acknowledge his overlordship. Sure they rebel again later, but that is in their nature. Planting colonies in inhospitable barbarian lands such as Prax reinforces the reality of this claim. With the collapse of the Syndic’s Ban, presumably the Red Emperor will seek to bring order to the West.

The last year has witnessed major rebellions by barbarians and monsters against the Red Emperor. Horse barbarians have made a desperate effort to overthrow the Lunar Empire, but the Fourth Inspiration of Moonson shall defeat them. Dragons, the ancient enemies of God, have killed countless in the south, aided by barbarian rebels, and even threatened the Red Moon itself, but the Red Emperor has sent them away. As soon as the horse barbarians are defeated, the Red Emperor shall no doubt restore order in the south.

Does Argrath have titles? King of Pavis (from 1625), Prince of Sartar (from 1627), and King of Dragon Pass (from 1628). Later titles come as the Hero Wars continue.
