After Boldhome’s liberation in 1625, Kallyr spent only a few days in the city before marching on Jonstown. The Boldhome militia participated in this campaign and fought at Dangerford.
Kallyr was acclaimed Prince of Sartar by the tribes AND by the assembled Boldhome citizens. She formed a city ring, and appointed a kinswoman to serve as administrator of Boldhome who in turn relied on the powerful head of the Stonemason’s Guild, Leikan, to rebuild the city and its temples.
Kallyr herself was not particularly involved in the governance of Boldhome, relegating most of that work to the city administrator and to the assembly, while she and her Ring focused on preparations for the Lightbringers Quest. The Citizen’s Assembly was active with seasonal meetings to deliberate and approve measures proposed by the Ring.
The Lightbringers Quest ended in disaster, and many of Kallyr’s companions, senior priests, and rune lords were killed by the Red Woman. Leikan was appointed city administrator but the city had little time to recover, as news came that the King of Tarsh and the Lunar Army marched on Sartar. The Boldhome militia followed its Prince to the Battle of Queens, where the Lunar Army was defeated but Prince Kallyr died.
Without a Prince, the free city of Boldhome was governed by its assembly and by Leikan who became known as the “Mayor”. There was much conflict between the tribes and between Boldhome and the tribes, as the Boldhome citizens tried to assert their authority and power. Sartar was leaderless and many feared the Lunar Empire would soon return to power. Others sought a new Prince and supported Argrath White Bull, a distant heir of the Sartar Dynasty who was in the Far Point fighting against the Lunars.
In 1627, Argrath entered Boldhome accompanied by his companions and watched by the assembled citizens, priests, and tribal leaders. Despite several attempts to assassinate him, Argrath summoned the Flame of Sartar and was acclaimed Prince of Sartar. A new City Ring was appointed and approved by the assembly.
Kallyr dies at the Battle of Queens in 1626, less than two seasons after her failed attempt at a Stationary Lightbringers Quest.
So if your game is set in Boldhome, there’s a lot going on. Seasonal meetings of all the citizens, where the guilds try to establish their control over the city through oratory, wealth, and the occasional mob violence. Guilds and temples need agents who can further their interests and do their dirty work. Money, through trade and crafting, is as important a source of power as tribal warriors.
Meanwhile we have the Princely politics playing out at the Royal Palace, with hundreds of scribes, newly appointed judges, mercenaries, and tribal leaders all jostling for influence and power.
