Air Gods in the Lunar Heartland

Posted on April 24, 2023

In the Lunar Heartlands, several Air gods are recognized.

First of course is Orlanth, the Thunder God who slew Yelm and plunged the world into the Lesser Darkness. He is acknowledged as most powerful of the storm gods, and his cult is widespread in the Lunar Provinces. Orlanth rejects Yelm’s authority and so the Red Goddess contends with him over the Middle Air, and many believe that if she succeeds, a new Golden Age will begin.

Valind is next mightiest. The God of Winter brings freezing cold and snow from his vast glacial stronghold down to the Pelorian plains. However, thanks to the annual Kalikos Expedition, Valind has been greatly weakened and the Oslira River has not frozen over in a generation.

Entekos is the goddess of still, quiet air. Unlike her brothers, she calmly joined Yelm’s dominion. She is called upon to restrain the gods of thunder, rain, and winter. She is also called the Goddess of Calm, the White Planet, Lady of the Summer Air, the Goddess of the Middle Air, and Mother of Moons.

Humakt is the feared god of Death and War. He is the Carmanian War God and is still worshiped there and in the Lunar Provinces. He was defeated by Yanafal Tarnils, who is the Lunar War God.

Storm Bull is known as a violent and destructive storm god and bull god. He was the patron god of the awful Bull Shahs (and still worshiped by some Carmanians), and is worshiped by the hill tribes of Brolia and Talastar.

Integrating Molanni with Entekos is really easy. Especially when you’ve seen early drafts of some of the “Entekos” stories with Molanni’s name.
