Yelmalio in New Pavis

Posted on June 23, 2024

The Yelmalio cult of New Pavis is about the same size as the Storm Bull or Humakt cult, with somewhere around 300 initiates. The cult is centered on the Yelmalio temple in Suntown, which maintains its traditional autonomy under the rule of Argrath.

The Yelmalio cult stands outside of the network of cults centered on Orlanth. Yelmalio competes with Orlanth for the favor of the Earth Goddess cult, but has few other local allies. However, just 45 km to the south is the Sun Dome Temple of Prax, and another 4400 co-religionists, including 800 Sun Dome Templars. This is more than enough to make the Yelmalio cult a force to reckon with.

Argrath seems determined to maintain at least a friendly neutrality with the cult, and seeks an alliance with the Sun Dome Temple. He accepted peace with the cult on very generous terms after his defeat of the Sun Dome Templars at Second Moonbroth. Argrath agreed to uphold the old agreements between Dorasar and Varthanis, and Suntown governs itself without interference. Argrath has many friends in the cult from his days as an adventurer, not least being the famous Light Son Rurik Runespear.

As a result, Suntown is patrolled by its own cultists, and even the Storm Bull cultists grudgingly acknowledge their rights there. The district is certainly less rambunctious than the Farmers Quarter or Oldtown.

Jeff forgets that the Sun Domers were not actually on the losing side at Second Moonbroth. They have survived in Prax for 800 years using the strategy of “winning by not losing”, and this was no exception.

Although summoned to the oasis by their Lunar overlords and dutifully taking up their place in the shield wall, as the battle commenced they suddenly switched sides, adroitly stepping aside in formation to let the nomad horde charge through. A barrage of Sun Spears then blew a straight road through to the heart of the oasis, and the Sun Dome Templars stood silently by as the nomads poured in. Quickly, the Lunar rout became a massacre, but the only Sun Domer to fall at Moonbroth was Count Invictus himself.

After the victory the Light Captain Belvani proclaimed himself Count, and was acclaimed so by his Templars. He immediately announced Sun County would make a pact with Argrath White Bull and show proof of the Sun Dome’s fidelity before the walls of Pavis.
