Yanioth the Red-Haired Huntress

Posted on May 29, 2023

Yanioth Two-Sight was born in 1577, the daughter of Arene Triceratops Queen, a powerful Earth priestess who commanded a herd of triceratops, and was killed after they destroyed the village of Janastan. Yanioth was raised by her father, Arene’s lover and a member of the Orlmarth clan named Orlgard. Yanioth was initiated into the clan in 1590 and dyed her hair red as an initiate of Vinga Adventurous. She could see spirits and other invisible things, and was famed as a huntress.

Although she was not wealthy, Yanioth was from birth a girl of special status, as her mother was the daughter of Minara Alynx, who in turn was one of the three daughters of Onelisin Cat-Witch, the only daughter of Prince Saronil. Arene’s great-uncles were the Princes of Sartar, and Prince Terasarin was her second cousin. That her mother was the Triceratops Queen only added to her prestige.

Yanioth was a bold huntress, roaming the forests and hills of the Quivin Mountains, hunting game and spirits with nothing more than her bow and dagger. She even gained the respect of the Karandoli hunters. A tribal warrior named Manisiki, himself a hunter from the Karandoli clan and son of the Iron Bear, fell in love with Yanioth. He pursued her, wooed her, and proved himself to her. They married in 1595, and the next year Yanioth gave birth to a son.

Maniski was killed in 1602, fighting against the Lunar Army at Runegate. Yanioth and her son returned to the Starfire Ridge and her kin, but she was killed in 1606 when Clearwine was burned by Lunar soldiers, leaving behind her 10 year old son.
