Notes on The Black Fang Brotherhood

Posted on June 1, 2024

The Black Fang Brotherhood was formed around 1450 in the Big Rubble, when a human shaman met Black Fang in the Spirit World. Black Fang was a legendary bandit of approximately 100 years before who had raided everyone inside the Rubble, irrespective of race. Black Fang’s spirit serves an unnamed god and can dispense Rune magic to worshipers.

This is a small cult, whose 300 or so worshipers are assassins and cutthroats. It is organized as a large extended family, with initiates being “adopted” into the family.

The cult is thought to be centered in the Big Rubble, and Gimgim the Grim is said to have estimated that some 200 cultists reside within the Rubble. He certainly made contact with the cult in the Big Rubble and not elsewhere. However, there are thought to be cultists in New Pavis and in some of the surrounding villages. The cult is thought to have been a key factor in the survival of humans in the last century of Troll occupation.

Cult members deny belonging to the cult and are even more secretive than the Lanbril cult rings. However, both the Hole Lords and Harli’s Men are known to have worked with Black Fang cultists to eliminate dangerous foes.

There are unsubstantiated rumors that there have been chapters of Black Fang created in Dragon Pass and the Holy Country.

Now one thing many are curious about is WHERE the Black Fang rites take place. It is assumed underground somewhere, and obviously not in the Troll Stronglands or the Garden, but the specific location is unknown.
