Wilmskirk II

Posted on June 3, 2023

Boldhome is a big city, at some 10,000 people it is the second biggest city in Dragon Pass. The other cities founded by Sartar and his family are smaller – between 2100 and 2500 people for those in Sartar, and 5150 for New Pavis.

One source of inspiration for cities like Jonstown, Swenstown, and Wilmskirk is the Italian city of Aosta (Augusta Praetoria) which had a population somewhere between 2000 and 5000 people.

Wilmskirk was the template for all of Sartar’s cities. It was laid out first, in 1476, with the city built around its great open-air temple complex to Orlanth Rex in the center. It is the religious center for southern and western Sartar, much more so than sleepy Clearwine Fort. This is the Jrusteli Plan, used by the colonies of the Middle Sea Empire, adapted by Sartar and Wilms for the cities Sartar founded.

Wilmskirk is the first city that travelers from the Holy Country encounter, and the city is beautiful, with statues and temples made of stone, and spacious – almost a third of the city is taken up by the temple complex. Wilmskirk is also geographically beautiful, with snow-capped Quivin Mountain just 20 km behind it. Wild Mountain is even closer, maybe half that distance.

Although an important religious, trade, and cultural center, Wilmskirk has a small population, only about 2500 people, about the same size as Jonstown.

How would Boldhome compare to Nochet and Pavis?

Boldhome is MUCH bigger than New Pavis, with twice the population and at 350 hectares it is more than 12 times the size of New Pavis. But maybe you are thinking of the Big Rubble, which has about half the population of Boldhome but is almost six times the size.
