Trolltown in The Big Rubble II

Posted on December 14, 2024

We often forget that the Big Rubble can actually be viewed as a troll city with a human minority. First some comparisons of size. New Pavis is 28 hectares, and I think we can all agree there is a lot there. However, in comparison Trolltown (in the Troll Stronglands) covers 65 hectares and Temple Hill covers another 20 hectares! Another way of looking at it is that Trolltown is about the size of the ruins of Pompeii. The full Troll Stronglands are some 85 hectares.

In the Troll Stronglands there are some 500 adult dark trolls, 100 great trolls, and 1600 trollkin. They are divided into numerous factions and clans, all of which quarrel and compete. The ruling group lives in an Old Pavic fortress atop Temple Hill.

Now adventurers should be pretty wary of going into a troll city for the purposes of pillaging and killing the locals – just as troll war bands should be pretty wary of going into New Pavis for the purposes of pillaging and killing the locals! But the trolls do have some of the best treasure in the Rubble – remember that Old Pavic fortress atop Temple Hill used to be the fortress of the rulers of Old Pavis prior to the Troll Occupation.

Within the Big Rubble, the trolls are the second most powerful group, after whoever controls New Pavis. Argrath, like the Lunars before him, has no interest in trying to use force to impose his will on Trolltown. His mercenaries patrol key parts of the Rubble, and several of his companions are certainly not above trying to steal treasures from the trolls, but in general, the relationship between New Pavis and Trolltown is one of mutual suspicion and wariness rather than outright conflict.
