The relationship between the cults of Orlanth and Humakt also help show the relationship between the initiates of Humakt and the rest of Orlanthi society.
Most adults in Orlanthi society participate in the secrets of Orlanth either directly as an initiate or as an associated cult member. That’s nearly 80% of all of Sartar. Imagine a big network of cults all tightly linked to Orlanth.
A few cults stand outside of this. The largest of these cults is Yelmalio. He stubbornly maintains his neutrality, autonomy and independence from the Lightbringers. However, his cult is associated with Ernalda, so there is something of a backdoor connection.
The Seven Mothers cult in Sartar is completely outside of this network and is hostile towards Orlanth and never better than neutral towards the other members of his network. The Seven Mothers have no associations with any local cults, but can rely on a network of Lunar cults.
Humakt is not associated with anyone. He is the God of Endings and does not share his secrets with anyone. However, unlike Yelmalio and the Seven Mothers his cult is friendly with Orlanth (and almost nobody else). Humakt normally has a role in Orlanthi rituals, even if he does not participate in them, he does participate outside of them, if that makes sense. His cult guards the rituals, protecting them from outsiders, even if they do not participate in their mysteries. Even though they are not associated cults, Humakt and Orlanth work closely together, protecting each other.
