A Sense of How Long Ago Things Were

Posted on March 26, 2023

From time to time I like to dust off this and post again. Now is one of those times!

see:

A Sense Of Chronological Perspective
Comparative Timeline

Does this mean that more happens in a shorter time on Glorantha compared to Earth? I still don’t understand too much of what this means. It means that stuff in the Second Age is about as pertinent to most Sartarites as the rise of the Neo-Assyrian Empire would have been to a Greek of Alexander’s Age. In other words, not really at all.

Fantasy literature is filled with backstories that go back hundreds and thousands of years. But for most people, real history starts about a hundred or two hundred years ago, tops. Everything beyond that is pretty abstract and rarely relevant.

Belintar didn’t last that long. He started about as far back in time as Solon would have been for Demosthenes. Belintar’s origin stories would likely sound more like legend than history.
