- The Wooing of Enerin and Maniski by Bruce Ferrie for HeroWars
- A scenario for Hero Wars
- Illustrated by Ralph Horsley
- Narrator Information Benchmark: This episode is suitable for heroes of no more than 10W in their best ability. Depending on how the heroes approach the scenario, it can emphasise either combat or their ability to negotiate and influence others.
- Premise: Enerin Lelesdottir and Maniski Finehair fall in love, but both are proud and insist on “proving themselves” to one another. Their efforts draw in the heroes, and may cause friction between their clans.
- Relationships: This episode assumes that the heroes are members of the Skystone clan, which enjoys friendly relations with the neighbouring Verlaini. The Narrator may change any or all details if necessary.
- Scene 1:
- The Growing Festival
- Key Points: The heroes attend the Growing Festival and may take part in traditional contests. Enerin Lelesdottir, a young woman from the Skystone clan, and Maniski Finehair, a Verlaini warrior, approach the heroes for information.
- Details and Hero Knowledge
- The Growing Festival: The Skystone clan and the Verlaini are old allies. Since their ancestors came to Dragon Pass, the Growing Festival has marked the end of planting. Ritual contests allow the young to show their mettle and honour the gods, so:
- Ernalda will release the bounty of the earth.
- Orlanth will allow Heler to bring rain to water the crops.
- Elmal will make the sun shine to ripen the grain.
- The clans take turns in hosting the festival. This year it is the turn of the Skystone Clan, who are holding a three-day long celebration near their main settlement, Dancers’ Stead.
- Setting
- Many people, from both clans, have come to Dancers’ Stead. The cries of traders hawking their wares fill the air, competing with the songs and tales of entertainers, children laughing and the weaponthanes boasting (as usual). Everyone enjoys the generous feast laid on by the Skystone clan. The smell of mead, fresh-baked bread and roasting meat drifts across the festival ground.
- The sun is shining and the carls, with the hard work of planting over for now, are looking forward to a chance to relax and enjoy themselves.
