There’s an awful lot in the Lunar Way, and it is worth reading nice and carefully, and then digesting in order to get that chance at Illumination.
To help digest it, may I recommend occasionally referring to the Guide to Glorantha and the Glorantha Sourcebook. The previous books in the Cults series might shed some interesting insights (and this book might lead to some interesting insights into them).
The Lunar cults form a spiritual system that 1. leads the worshipers towards the Red Goddess, and 2. protects the Lunar cults in a generally hostile world. Traditional cults that don’t interfere or threaten this system are tolerated; a few are even integrated into the Lunar spiritual system (most significantly Yelm, Gorgorma, and Annilla).
The Seven Mothers collective (including the specialty subcults) is the main vehicle for this spiritual system. Probably two/thirds of ALL Lunar initiates belong to that collective or one of its subcults. Remember that every generation needs teaching of the Lunar Way – most especially in the Heartlands. We are rarely born Illuminated.
As an aside, there’s a lot of stuff in here that might contradict or confuse half-remembered fan discussions or the HW materials but those of you who have been paying attention to my posts on Facebook the last few years were no doubt ready and prepared!
I’m still struggling to understand who the ‘Egi’ are. Read pages 114-115 very carefully and an answer should form.
Are there Lunar clan names? Yes. “Clans” in the sense of extended kinship groups are common in many societies, including Pelorian. So Rastari-ining family, Assiday family, the Yanoriao-ilart clan, the Errio-unit, Tharkalists, the Taran-il, the Jenet-aror, the Wylua-oor, the Molari-sor clan.
