Trolls in Dragon Pass

Posted on January 16, 2024

After humans, trolls are the most numerous sentient species in Dragon Pass, although they live primarily on the edges of the area. There are some 70,000 trolls in Dragon Pass – mostly in Dagori Inkarth and around Cliffhome.

There are another 41,000 trolls in the Shadow Plateau and Troll Woods, and another 120,000 on the other side of the Skyreach Mountains in Halikiv. A little further afield past the Rockwoods in the Elder Wilds are another 400,000 trolls!

The most important places in troll geography in the area are:
Castle of Lead (Dagori Inkarth): This is THE center of trolldom in Dragon Pass. Kyger Litor lives here, in the deep. There are Mistress Race Trolls here, ancient ancestors from before Time.

Cliffhome: The home of Cragspider the Firewitch and birthplace of the great trolls. Spiders, secrets, and even a Black Dragon breathing fire in the shadows.

The Tarpit: Atop the Shadow Plateau, this once the stairwell to the Underworld from the Only Old One’s palace. It is now ruins, with billowing clouds of powdered black glass that blow in the wind.

The Great Caves: Home to several powerful troll clans, including Redstone.

You can imagine the Night Caravans largely travel between these places. The human settlements between these places are a nuisance, now too powerful to be eliminated. But if an opportunity presented itself, no doubt there would be trolls eager to strike – especially among the Zorak Zoran cult.
