The Puzzle Canal in the Big Rubble was built for spiritual and ritualistic purposes by Labrygon, a demi-god priest from the Empire of the Wyrm’s Friends. Building it took hundreds of laborers, but it seems to serve no obvious purpose. Observers of Labrygon’s actions suggested that the canal might be an elaborate Nysalor riddle, but this suggestion was not appreciated and was much discouraged.
Whether intended to be a Nysalor riddle or not, the Puzzle Canal was built as a magical journey of challenge, self-discovery, and transformation. It was intended to be a magical test – and the path to the center was to result in spiritual growth. It is known that there is a painting room with prophetic powers and that the whole canal has some magical connection with the powers of the deeps – perhaps of Daliath? Might that explain the connection with various sea monsters known to appear within the canal – and indeed why the whole thing is a canal?
