Princes of Sartar Art Preview

Posted on June 19, 2023

Here’s a wonderful WiP from Katrin Dirim of the Princes of Sartar, from Sartar to Argrath. Lots of information in this piece, worth carefullly looking at. These are from coins stamped in Boldhome.

Most Sartarites would know which Prince is which by the iconography on the coins, and probably could recite a deed or two for each Prince.

  • Top Row Sartar, Saronil, Jarolar, Jarosar, Tarkalor
  • Bottom row: Terasarin, Salinarg, Temertain, Kallyr, Argrath

Argrath deliberately looks to the left, in order to show that he is an unfettered by the past and open to the new. It hints at draconism, experimental heroquesting, etc., but also signifies that he has seen the world and does not fear.

As an aside, I consider this a pretty definitive take on what a Sartarite prince looks like. Which means this is what your Orlanthi rune lords aspire to look like!

It is hard for me to think of a more world-traveled ruler in the Third Age than Argrath. Dragon Pass, Prax, Teshnos, Teleos, Maslo, Fonrit, Jrustela, Seshnela, and the Holy Country. That’s a lot of adventuring!

The diameter of the coins is based on the status of the Prince. Big coins mean the prince managed to become King of Dragon Pass.
