The Dragon Pass book was the result of Matt Ryan and I needing to create “official maps” of Dragon Pass, Prax, the Holy Country, and the Lunar Provinces. We started with Greg’s original map of Dragon Pass that hangs on the office wall, and then I started creating entries for just about every name on the map.
Some of these were easy – as many were well-established locations. Boldhome, Furthest, Clearwine, etc. Others meant going to other maps or diagrams – Greg’s Quivin Mountain notes and sketches, his Wilds chapter of his unfinished Dragon Pass notebook (which is why the Wilds are their own section), and campaign notes.
Other entries needed to be created. Tribes were mapped out, clans developed, and lots and lots of spreadsheets created. Temples were identified, and there are some huge spreadsheets of data behind them.
The map creation went in three stages:
Greg’s original map of Dragon Pass that underlay the WBRM boardgame and all his writings was the foundation.
I then hand drew and labeled a map traced off Greg’s map and refined for more details.
Matt then made it all look good.
There is lot of trade between the Lunar Empire and the Holy Country passes thru the Grazelands. But there are no caravan travel times between Rich Post and Nochet (or any other place). Can I assume that caravans go to Rich Post and then by boat from Smallboat down to the Holy Country. A minority of caravans go from Furthest to Rich Post and then down to Nochet. But thanks to those good roads, Furthest to Boldhome and then to Karse is preferred by many caravans.
