which is the Chaosium house Runequest campaign and what i wanted to do i’ve got all the

players here is i wanted to do a little bit of a flashback

uh last season to to talk about a few things going on that was going on in Boldhome in sea

season that we missed during sea season and and part of that is also to talk about

um why nobody tried to kill you all after the uh

failed lightbringer’s quest and and there’s a variety of reasons for that one is is that caller has lost much of

her uh much of her household and many of her companions i i actually if i remember from that session

it was it was not just many it was most of her companions were killed wasn’t that yeah case

it doesn’t also a dozen or so now um

companion in certain right society that’s actually an office and and something

that carries on very significant um leadership and and sometimes cult roles

sometimes governmental uh governmental roles and basically it is that the

friend of a prince that’s the the friends of the prince that’s the people around the prince that the prince

traditionally can really really rely on to to serve as their uh

you know more than just their their mounted warriors but kind of as extensions of themselves

as as people who might lead um you know they might lead an army of

warriors they might lead um a a religious ritual on behalf of a prince they they may show

up in a city and um you know try to figure out what’s going on with the

with the revenues from that city or or whatever but basically uh

under the princes now admittedly none of your characters has never really been a prince of sartar

in your lifetime there was there was there was tamartain who doesn’t really he was technically a prince but

uh he’s an example of everything you’re not supposed to do as a prince

but for the without their friends a prince is not got much ability

to do a tremendous amount of stuff because again this is um uh keep in mind

starter is you know it’s it’s not a modern bureaucratic state

it’s not even like a medieval state with permitted offices or whatnot you have a prince

the prince has a bunch of friends the prince tells their friends to do things and that the friends look out

after the prince during the lightbringer’s quest most of keller’s friends or companions

were killed and that was a huge blow um to her ability to govern and you

can’t just you know i’m sure she’s gonna try to recruit new friends or whatnot and the irony is in theory you all are

the sort of people that could be recruited as a friend um

which would be mighty ironic wouldn’t it uh but it just goes a long ways for

explaining why nobody is gonna try nobody you know there was nobody came up and just did the who will rid me

of these turbulent hero questers is caller doesn’t have a whole lot of

folk like that and um and this also is

you know it it’s made worse in that she has fusionary rights to perform uh

you know she has to that there there is all of the religious stuff uh related to this total

fiasco of a ceremony uh and then there’s something else that complicated things

and that is is that at some point in sea season a delegation of ducks showed up

into uh Boldhome they um and they made the proper that they they

made the proper pleadings or squawkings in their case and made the demand that

caller um that uh they made a series of demands against

a number of the most powerful tribes in Sartar including the Colymar

in demanding compensation from from those tribes for a series of events

called the duck hunts and during the duck hunts the lunar said that if you killed a duck

and presented it to the lunar overlords the lunars would
5:53
would forgive the taxes on you and your your your kinfolk for some period of

time and so basically the the the lunar is encouraged

all out murder of ducks by many tribes and and many people refused to participate

but but many of the tribes did participate in it including the Colymar the Malanium

the i believe the Culbrea, the Cinsina, an awful lot of the tribes and a lot of

the very important tribes that Kallyr now really needs now that she doesn’t have

any friends and this is made even worse in that the

ducks are right what the tribes did was murder the duck hunts you know ducks are not

you know nonsense creatures they’re part of the they’re part of them they’re one of the tribes and

uh and so this is something that pretty much will has the the issue of the duck hunt has

pretty much occupied the prince’s attention because this is a nightmare and of course the ducks being

the ducks uh nobody is sure the numbers of ducks

that they claim were killed or who is responsible for them because

the Colymar the Colymar tribe uh they refused to pay anything because they the culinary say

that that was done under the evil uh rule of king blackmore

who is uh a false king and so they shouldn’t have to pay anything but if they do

pay anything it shouldn’t be for ducks killed by a different tribe than the culinar

and every tribe is saying some variation of this all of this goes to the prince normally

she would delegate this to her friends to listen to a deal with she doesn’t have very many

and they’re they they have to deal with lots of other more pressing things so you could

imagine day in and day out keller is having to hear ducks

so i i and i think this is an important thing that that it’s worth understanding

as a background that this is part of the reason there is no summoning of you all to the palace

to to shake you down or to threaten you because there are ducks

saved by the duck revising a bit what i think about ducks

to be honest well and here’s this is actually a big deal and i’ll let anyone try to make an insight or a

as opposed to no one ever admitted aside from getting your taxes back you would boast about it you know

killed 100 ducks or something well and see then that would be actually okay that would actually be mitigating if yes

yeah i killed 100 but a lot of people are ashamed by it and they did this so they they

they got their taxes done or reduced but they didn’t say why but they didn’t take claim they didn’t

announce that they had done this uh and failure to to announce this

for the Orlanthi and and and and kobras would get this because it’s very very much the wolf pirate attitude

well if you don’t say he did something well how are how would their kin gonna uh you know get vengeance

the ducks are absolutely right on a case but on the other hand the clans uh

many of these clans now have new rulers because their old pro-lunars pro-lunar

the these tribes are um saying that they’re not respond you

know that that that that was the dead folks problem not their uh their problem

and they’re in a weak situation but they don’t want to have to pay uh for these things or pay compensation

ducks suck not the nicest people and and there’s the other bit the ducks are kind of well

they’re they’re they’re irritating they’re yes they’re have you ever dealt with a dark corpse i

mean with all the feathers you know to properly embalming them it’s actually terrible it’s it’s really not fun you have all

the flaws on your hands afterwards and it’s actually really tough to look good and

then they burn like and smell like chicken you know someone comes around and eats them because they

think it’s a turkey or something so anyways anyways all that’s a long way of saying that

right now when you guys were in Boldhome caller’s authority is extremely weak

i i’ve got i mean i’m not necessarily saying that says Garan but we are the emissaries

off the white ball and maybe we could do a little

sowing of the seeds for when he comes into his power by going to the ducks and saying

the terms that our graph would offer no well you have to go let’s say are god’s

willing to pay for it and are you willing to swear that our graph would pay for them to make the recommends which is an option caller can always say

what’s going on elsewhere in sartar and of course the tribe that you’re with

right now they’re at the center of this yeah because the the kolimar

uh they take the position that the current queen who was ousted

from power about 10 years ago claims she was always still the lawful queen

and so everything that was done by the tribe under the the previous king well this was done

under usurper and so that you know

this this isn’t their this isn’t their uh debt it’s that isn’t right but it

but isn’t the um what’s the good word for it but isn’t

that the individual or lancy also responsible for for their actions

they’re responsible for killing ducks under a false king under the rule of chaos actually

they were literally letting himself i didn’t say this i’m not saying this is a very strong

because the ducks are excellent chaos fighters they’re excellent undead fighters and lunars use whatever

powers they can in order to get where they want so why were they so

inherent on killing all the ducks so i think that’s the important question i’m also very

disappointed in sartre rights for following the lunar rule because that is

that is this is not new news this is not new news i mean they that the main duck

came out to climb our land um now the cullimar were probably not one of the worst defenders in this

and and it’s probably a fair bit that many of the within the tribe many of the ones who are the worst offenders of this

it is it is still in a unpleasant bit of background

uh the go that you know that that has happened here in the

kingdom but it also um is a giant crisis for

keller starbrow because you know not only does she have has she lost her friends not only

has she had a disastrous uh um a hero quest

but now she also has to deal with this unbelievably thorny problem where

you know the e the right answer is to say to all the tribes they’ve got

to pay compensation for it but these are some of the most power the

kolima are the most powerful tribe in sartar and the other tribes involved in this is

as well are they are very um you know that it’s the balmeyer very

powerful tribe there’s the concena powerful tribe there’s the locain

tribe there’s the Malanii mean these are the these are these are some of the biggest

heavy-hitting tribes in in sartar and

uh you know that that’s a day if you’re a weakened prince that’s a

difficult thing to do to antagonize um you know five or six of the most
21:21
powerful tribes and she probably needs her support right now

yeah and these were tribes some of these tribes were none too happy with her in the first place

and uh so anyways i i don’t know if that that that’s probably immaterial to

where we are right now so let’s switch scenes um again which is

earth goddess and she is one of the daughters of ernalda and so uh

at a certain level this is a repetition of of the the mythic deeds of

orlanth and ernalda except in this case it’s with a sardorite pirate and a dryad

coming out of a sequoia so with that um and the elves are all fine

with this you know they they would you know they’re great goddess you know having the
