Filichet (large city)

Posted on July 5, 2022

This city on the shores of lake Invaress has around 15,000 residents and is the capital of the Lunar Province of Holay. Filichet marks the end of the Daughter’s Road. From here, that magical road leads through Mirin’s Cross and finally to Jillaro. Although there has been a settlement and a religious sanctuary here since at least the early Third Age, Hwarin Dalthippa halted her Conquering Daughter campaign here and she took for herself the Helmet of Perides and accepted the submission of many Orlanthi chieftains. Hwarin Dalthippa founded a city here and settled it with colonists from Sylila and the Lunar Heartlands. In later Wanes, Filichet became a refuge for people fleeing the wars in Peloria and civil strife in Tarsh, and has many elements of Lunar and Orlanthi culture.

Filichet is ruled by the young Queen Inrana, who is viewed as an incarnation of a daughter of the Earth Goddess called Redaylda and rules the province as the Queen of Holay. The city is known for its many baths, and for being the home of the Bell Temple heavy cavalry regiment.

Filichet is an important religious center in the Lunar Provinces. It is best known for its great temple to Ernalda called the Bell Temple, where the Earth goddesses and their consorts are entertained by music created by racks of chime bells. The Bell Temple predates the city’s founding and includes major temples to Pel-Oria and Redaylda, minor temples to Dendara, and Orlanth Adventurous, and shrines to Asrelia, Babeester Gor, Gorgorma, Maran Gor, Ty Kora Tek, and Voria. The Bell Temple recruits and supports the Bell Temple heavy cavalry regiment, a famed unit of the Lunar army.

There is a great temple to the Seven Mothers, with a major temple to Hwarin Dalthippa, and a shrine to the Red Goddess. The city has a major temple to Yelmalio and a minor temple to Yelm, with shrines to Hyalor and Uleria.

The city also has a major temple to Barntar Thunderous, with shrines to each of the Seven Lightbringers, and minor temples to Gustbran and Humakt. The market has a major temple shared by Issaries and Etyries, with a minor temple to Lokarnos.

I find Filichet particularly fascinating as it is really the Gateway to the Lunar Empire thanks to the Daughter’s Road, which starts there and heads directly to Mirin’s Cross and then Jillaro. It is an older Lunar settlement than Furthest, but is less self-consciously “Lunar” than Furthest.
