Fazzur employs Anqus Farquilis as his master of wagons, in charge of the logistics of the Provincial Army and the units of the Cavalry Corps and Heartland Corps attached to the campaign. This suggests at least an existing approach for this problem.

Much of the food for the army is produced in lowland Tarsh anyway, and the maize is shipped on the Oslir to the Heartland, or on wagons into occupied Sartar. Ritually important food (like rice for Dara Happan regiments) will have to be imported all the way from the Heartlands, but there happen to be plenty of empty grain barges on their return trip to Tarsh. Basically, the logistics for the campaign are centered on Furthest.

Water is not a problem prior to the Fimbulwinter, which makes supporting the occupation forces a real problem after the Fall of Whitewall. Not to mention the steady flow of building and ritual supplies to the center of that cold, the new Lunar temple.

I wonder how many tax farmers go broke after the Fall of Whitewall – they have to pay the taxes for their districts even when those districts have fallen into the Greater Darkness, because that’s how tax farming works. And how many cronies of Tatius the Bright sold off their own shares in tax farming just before the final assault on Whitewall…

(I see some potential for a Lunar campaign here – imagine that you receive a tax farming license for some conquered territory as a reward for good service to the Empire. Then the Fimbulwinter strikes…)

Anqus Farquinils is the quartermaster for the Provincial Army and knows all the roads, sources of food and goods, and other necessary cogs for efficient supply of the Lunar Army in Dragon Pass. He reports to the Provincial General (1613-1621 Fazzur Wideread, 1621-1625 Tatius the Bright) and is empowered to requisition food and goods, and distribute them to the regiments. He is assisted by teams of scribes, teamsters, wagon trains, sutlers, and private agents. Supply depots were established in cities throughout Dragon Pass. The army on the march usually supplied itself through a combination of carrying necessary supplies with it, baggage trains to the depots, and foraging from the surrounding land. Foraging was exceedingly difficult in the winter of 1622 and the famine year of 1623 (some think Tatius moved the main Lunar Army to Esrolia simply to more easily feed it).

Anqus and his operation are outside of the regimental structure, reporting directing to the Provincial General. However, foraging is typically done at a regimental level, and each regimental commander makes his demands on Anqus for regular supply. Requisition is typically done on a large scale. Vast amounts of grain (particularly maize) is also brought from the Provinces and the Heartlands to supply depots in Dragon Pass.

What level of armed forces are the rulers of the provinces allowed to maintain and are they part of the provincial army of alternative private forces?

If you’re talking Holay, Vanch, and Imther then probably equivalent of a small ‘regiment’ for guarding palace and their capital. These are largely ‘Orlanthi’ lands so aside what goes to the Provincial Army, most support would be through key allied tribes and clans and varied mercenary companies.

Jeff, much earlier in the thread you said the deities associated with most of the LCM and Heartland Corps regiments. Could you do the same for the Cavalry Corps and remaining Provincial Corps?
I’m particularly interested in who the Carmanian Cataphracts worship.
