Went horse riding to Little Starfire Ridge today. Our Grazer ponies did magnificently!
BTW, I post this sort of stuff to give an idea of the things that I that remind me of places in Glorantha. Given where I live (the Front Range of Colorado), that’s going to be a lot of Sartar and Prax.
The fact I get to do that on horseback is just a bonus!
The North American influences on Glorantha – particularly Genertela – are much stronger than most other fantasy settings. Ironically even though the Greyhawk map had the city of Greyhawk was located on the lakes in about the position that Chicago, and other such correspondences, that didn’t really carry over to the setting itself. The general culture was pseudo medieval European.
Genertela, on the other hand, has a lot of North America woven into it. Greg started it, and I’ve definitely continued it. My grandmother’s stories about the family homesteading their sod house in the Cherokee Strip got woven into those settlement of Dragon Pass stories. New Pavis is a Bronze Age Old West frontier town. And well, I can’t help but think of Prax when I see herds of bison and pronghorns. I’ve seen hints of Arachne Solara at Spider Rock, and I know the Block is near the Black Hills. Hell, I’ve even partied at the Dead Place, and ridden a horse through the Assembly Rocks.
