Kakstan was a Dragon Pass artist who came to Pavis in 880 after the defeat of Thog the Giant. He was active until his death at the hands of the nomads in 940. Kakstan was beloved by Tylenea, the Celestial Goddess of Illusion, so much so that he could craft permanent illusions into existence through painting and sculpture. His residence and workshop in Downtown constructed numerous paintings and sculptures that decorated the city in its Golden Age
When he died, he called upon Tylenea to let him continue creating art and she granted his request. Since then, mysterious pieces occasionally spawn in his so-called Art Museum. When this happens, lucky adventurers have plundered the Art Museum and sold the pieces to temples or individuals. Some of the better known pieces include:
A marble statue of Uleria riding a sea dragon (now gracing the Uleria temple in New Pavis)
A painting of a baby giant in its cradle with his treasures and guardians (taken by Sor-eel the Short and now in Glamour)
A golden oil-burning lamp that need only be lit once a year (taken by Sor-eel)
A panel painting of Joraz Kyrem on horseback (now in the Sun Dome Temple)
A marble sculpture of the defeated giant Paragua (now gracing the Pavis Temple)
Kakstan was no doubt famous in the late Second Age. No doubt there were folk in Orin Jistil and Olorost that knew his work.
But the fall of Old Pavis and then the EWF and the Dragonkill War eliminated most of his fan club. Now his name is known by scholars and attached to his “Art Museum” – which produces art of magical quality.
