Inkarne, the Feathered Horse Queen

Posted on June 28, 2021

A preview of some really amazing art for the Sartar Boxed Set. This is from Anna Orlova and is part of a character turn of Inkarne, the Feathered Horse Queen. Wow! So damn amazing! Anna’s attention to detail and character is just mind-blowing!

The Feathered Horse Queen plays a very significant role in Sartarite identity. All of the princes except Salinarg is descended from her (which is interesting, isn’t it), and the Orlanthi model for the priest-ruler of the kingdom requires that to be king, the Prince must court the Feathered Horse Queen and perform whatever challenges she demands. These challenges give the Feathered Horse Queen tremendous leverage and authority; her cultic role as the incarnation of the Earth Goddess gives her respect and magical power. And it doesn’t hurt that she has her own troop of fanatical Humakti bodyguards, a small army of the best cavalry in all of Dragon Pass, and a close working relationship with the Shaker Priestess.

Artist, Anna Orlova

The Grazers were doomed and dying, and soon to be torn apart. Their Dendara-Horse Priestess delved deep into the womb of the Earth hoping to find some ancient secret that would help them survive. She did, and returned with Ernalda (and not Dendara) and the source of sovereignty. She defeated the Yelmites of the Pure Horse People and forced them to submit to the sovereignty of the Goddess in Her land. She proved herself the incarnation of the Earth Goddess and the gods competed for her favor. She married the cleverest and strongest of them and ensured that the Grazelands would have their place in Dragon Pass.
