The Movable Ephemeris (2026)

The Gloranthan Ephemeris running full screen using the CheerpJ Applet Runner 2026

The Moveable Ephemeris is the computer version of the famous “machine that marched with the sky” in Yuthuppa.

2026 Update

It’s now 2026, and the ephemeris can be easily run in the web page using the free CheerpJ Applet Runner extension in Chrome.

  • In Chrome (only), open the CheerpJ Applet Runner page
  • Click add to chrome
  • Navigate to chrome’s Extension page, chrome://extensions/ or top right three dots, Extensions, Manage Extensions. Make sure it’s on, then click Details.
  • You will now need to change the plugins preferences to make its icon appear in the toolbar. This is needed to make the Ephemeris run.
  • In the Details pane, scroll down to find Pin to toolbar and turn it on:
  • You should now have the CheerpJ icon in your toolbar. if not quit and restart Chrome.
  • Now click the Gloranthan Sky link to open the Ephemeris, then click the CheerpJ icon in the toolbar. It should now load and work

Problems are usually caused by:

  • Incognito mode
  • Not giving the CheerpJ Applet Runner permission to access the Ephemeris page.

2020 Update

It’s now (2020) often difficult to run java applets in web browsers. Make sure you have java installed. Click here to download the zipped Ephemeris java app, unzip and run the EphemerisII.class file.

2009 Update

If Java is installed on your computer and enabled in your web browser, the Ephemeris should display in a separate window.
