good evening and welcome to another session of the Chaosium house Runequest campaign the adventures

of the White Bull uh we’re gonna just dive right in because last week we had the the

big dramatic um and dramatic uh climax of the

Lightbringer’s quest that prince Kallyr Starbrow had and if i can remember uh Garan you

want to kind of describe the scene here of how this all well the bit i remember is uh i wounded

ironically it was Kulbrast to stuck the arm on again which is pretty weird

anyways um so let’s let’s so that the the the immediate narrow

range consequences of this is that you all had were were involved in an epic battle

in the um in the royal palace uh near the flame of sartar where

uh jar reel uh the incarnation of the red goddess

showed up um managed to to manifest herself in your ceremony and killed i think she

killed a lot of people if i remember was is that what you remember Kulbrast i

yes i danced with her yes and uh thanks

um in part to uh the folk that managed to to actually cause her to

bleed and uh Gina who managed to get her to

to dance out of step you were able to dispel the manifestation before she

killed everybody this is an impressive deed

this is a a genuinely heroic deed and i think the way Garan put it is absolutely right uh you all

did manage to wound a goddess and and that is pretty damn awesome

so one of the things that that comes out of this all this all occurred while your

characters were half in this world and half in the other world right yep yeah and so this

is one of the rare opportunities for you all to to um

try to or not try where you can spend some of your power

to try to create a um what we’re currently calling in the

rules a hero’s a hero soul this is a part of your character that exists

for exists eternally in the other world this is the immortal part of your

character that will be remembered in a thousand years in song good story

it’s not going to start out as very much basically right now it’s you’re a footnote in somebody

else’s story uh i i would say your character is kind of a footnote in Kallyr starbrough’s

heroic saga but as you continue to do impressive deeds you may end up you know

this this hero self of yours may end up becoming more impressive than your actual character

uh and and be something that is that is effectively immortal and future

generations may make little shrines too and sacrifice to it and whatnot but like all things you all

will start small so i’m gonna give the way this works is you have to sacrifice permanent points

of power for this and it’s kind of similar to your fetching kala

just to make this maddening but it’s not your fetch it doesn’t get to help your fetch you

sacrifice permanent points of power and that those those points of power exist

in the other world the system what is the advantage for me

right now well i’m gonna tell you okay a couple advantages is

that that i’m gonna tell you some potential spells

that you may be able to get as a result of your actions on this hero quest in order to

use those spells you need to spend these points of power that you have

in the other world they’re not going to be powered by your rune points they’re not powered by magic points

they’re powered only by these these hero points

forgive all the players that used to play hero quest and whatnot they’re they’re not the same thing but they’re

they’re they’re hero points so like they’re they’re like rune points but the rune points for powering your

your heroic self yep yeah so you seem to remember callie using

some of those yes she used a lot of them because because she got pissed off with you and

didn’t have them available to fight gigareal how does it help me in my

afterlife well you first off you have a guaranteed you you you exist

in the other world the in the god’s world forever

which is way better which is awesome i will sit on the table of my goddess

when i’m dead so what is better than that

you get fed as she does as opposed to making sure you’re okay

how many points then you get that’s the other thing

about this is is that in order to get if you spend these hero points they can come back

like rune points but not through worshipping your god you basically you basically have to get

people to worship and celebrate the deed that got you those hero points at a certain point you

want to convince people to start worshipping you do birthday parties count for the for

the first sort of viewpoints well not really um

i’m not that likable of a character well you know there’s another piece you can

also think of people appropriating you because they’re scared of you for instance one of the people one of

the people that gets the most worship in all of glorantha right now is herrick the berserk most of that

isn’t i want to be just like you herrick you’re so swell it’s please oh gods keep herrick away

from our village is it also ghosts worship me

right would it also be okay if ghosts worship me if you can manage to summon them bind

them set them all up yeah that would be a great way to create a hero cult

okay it’s a lot of work though you might want to have a constant place

um let me first tell you what the the various things are

uh available as as potential um hero powers based on your deeds

and then i’m gonna let you guys make the decision of how many power points you want to sacrifice for

this and the power points again it works a lot like a fetch so what you would do is

uh Gina what’s your power 17 so that’s a problem i think it’s some

kind of a threshold thingy oh probably is uh let’s say that you

decide to sacrifice three points of power for three points

let’s just say that for the point purposes that means your personal power goes down to 14.

now the cool thing is that just like with the fetch you get to you add those points

you keep those points for spell resistance purposes

but the downside of it as as linda can certainly speak to is you don’t have

those magic points available for you you don’t have those magic points i don’t believe you have those magic

points available for trying to overcome somebody else’s uh uh power you just

it’s just defensive right yeah i i think so yeah yeah yeah

so the point is is that you only partially get rid of them they’re more useful than rune points

in that regard the other thing is hero points can power your heroic abilities which we’re going

to talk about and they can also power your existing rin spells so i can actually use them for my rune

spells yes but how many rune points do you currently have

i have in the moment four four rune points okay

so let’s say you put you buy three you put three on this into your your for hero points

that’s awesome but it means theoretically you could you have seven

points available for rune spells but you only have three points available for

heroic um things that you’ve gained through hero questing so it only works it doesn’t work both

ways does this all make sense no

so i’m sorry i still i mean okay this is a way to sacrifice them to

increase my number of rune points but they do not regenerate easier than before

if you’re just doing rune spells it probably doesn’t make sense you’re right if you want to be able to

also leverage it for hero point for other different powers that you don’t normally ever get

then it makes then it’s okay what are the hero point powers well i was going to get to that’s what

i’m going to get to so on this magic game what’s the deal yeah so i can’t already

dance like a goddess so um

and we’re going to be a little bit flexible on this so one of the things about how these work in the game is they’re they’re like

rune spells but they are they can be much more varied than the rune spells that are currently

in existence and they’re a way that we can introduce rune spells that aren’t in the red book of magic

but make absolute perfect sense based on the cool things that the players have done

so first off everybody who went on that underworld quest and that’s all of you

guys that also includes eunesk you wandered through the underworld to a great extent following spirits um learning

about the the dead and the entities within there all of you in theory can learn

the two-point spell but only as a heroic ability it’s a
12:37
two-point spell summon specific spirit

what that means is that if you know the name of a dead person somebody who should be
12:50
in the underworld you have the ability to summon that specific spirit

whether that spirit is going to be friendly to you or not is irr not a part of the spell

theoretically Gina and incalla i believe both would have abilities to be able to deal with that

but they’re not undead Garan what is the difference between ghost and

spirit okay a ghost is some is a spirit that is bound in one way or

another to this world so if i say command i cannot if i summon

its spirit i cannot command him then you would be but okay you would be able to command it with your command ghost

while it’s manifest here now if it’s a really powerful spirit

that may be really stupid to try to do why because you still have to overcome

its power there was a problem and the power will

be slightly lower than it’s now yeah but it’ll go back up now you can augment that with

meditation and ritual and dancing and all sorts of ways to increase your

chance of doing that so it’s possible to do it but you know if you want to say i’m going to summon the ghost

of great king whose hoot um be aware that great king

whose might be very very powerful and difficult to be able to command uh to command on the other hand i want

to command the ghost of of howard the duck

you know you might be able to pull that off pretty easily why should i want that i don’t know

maybe howard the duck knows something but this allows you to summon a specific

spirit the spirit of a specific dead person an old queen an ancestor

a great warrior yep it’s a functionally the same thing as the dhaka fels daca fall spell

summon specific ancestor but this person does not have to be an ancestor of yours you

could summon a dead lunar or yeah okay

but and the reason is you’ve been on you guided all of these dead people through the

path of the dead you have a connection with the path of the dead you need to know their name you need to know enough about them to be

able to persuade me as the the gm that you’re able to reach down into the underworld

and and call forth that spirit but it’s a potentially really cool spell

it’s a two-point spell okay it does not exist on in

in any write-up it’s a unique spell you can only gain this through hero questing no cult teaches this at least not yet

um okay that’s a pretty nice spell

so what you’re saying is another way of getting people to to worship you is have cool stuff to

teach them which they can’t learn anywhere else exactly this is how this is how cults

change and develop the other spell that i’m going to throw out

is way um way more limited and that is hands up who actually drew

specific so there is another two point spell

that you could potentially gain through this now keep in mind i keep calling these two point spells that means

they it costs a minimum of two hero point uh hero points to activate this spell and this spell is

called cancel glow spot

oh beautiful and this means that you can show you’re able to

you’re able to give a weakness to the lunars now the lunar is

normally someone like jar real it is always the full moon around her

always all lunars around here always operate as if it is full moon even if

it’s a black man because she’s a glow spot so their spells are better basically their spells are 50 better

than than than yours around her well cancel glow spot does exactly what

it sounds like it knocks it cancels out the effect of a

glow spot within 20 meters of a 20 meter radius of

wherever the spell is cast and it cancels out the glow line

in that area now does that make sense i’m do i have

to give a little glorantholor of what that means i i can see linda is like i want that spell

could philip do you philip do you and and and Gina do you guys understand the consequences of that

maybe uh neil you can talk that through in runequest roles

yeah well basically the lunar empire is surrounded by the glow line and they were trying to extend the glow

line when they were building the temple of the or was it the reaching moon that the dragon went up and ate that’s what

that’s what the ritual they’re trying to do because basically in the lunar empire they’re always their magic is always

better than everybody else’s one of the reasons the lunars keep control over it by having this ability you can basically

say no you just have to go to the regular phase of the moon or whatever it means so it’s really good for facing things

and the other big one is the crimson bat is also a traveling glow

spot so this would basically give a lot of chance to basically reduce that as well if you hopefully

you don’t have to phase them so that’s really what the that’s what the spell is good for so it really makes you a far

better lunar fighter but what was that about cancelling the uh glow line i didn’t get it so the glow

line is basically the magical temples extend a certain powered aura but by all their
19:28
sacrifice and they tried to build the temple in starter that would extend it so all of a
19:33
sudden had that worked then all of starter would have been under the glow line so the lunars would have been a lot more

powerful so instead of being eaten and then you know cal were able to go and work with everybody and free up it would
19:45
have really locked it down would be a lot more like tarsh lunar tarsh it so within the glow line

all right so outside of the glow line on two days of the week are are the uh the
19:59
black moon days the dying moon and the black moon day and on those days

lunar magic doesn’t work at all

in the glow line it’s fine there the the the moon is always at least half

full inside the glow line but with this spell within a 20 meter radius of

the the spell it’s the normal cycle and it may not sound powerful

but the lunars are very used to the assumption that within the areas that they’ve set up their

magic is always is not subject to their own cycle so and i see a i see linda seems to be

having an almost vicious smile in appreciation of this

well yes i can this is being very useful indeed linda loves lunars

oh yeah the last thing is i would let

spell if he wants to sacrifice for of uh for hero points a spell from the

trickster occult so not an Orlanthth spell yeah i would have

to have a look at those yeah that sounds good and i’d be pretty relaxed about it i would let it be

any reasonable trickster spell along the lines of the stuff that you you brought in and it would be powered

by your hero points as opposed to you actually having to be a member of the trickster cult

which is a good question because i would have to start killing people we need to have a super short break okay

and that’s because of all of her dancing and this would be Gina you have a harmony as a rune don’t

so what you what this one would be is the spell harmonize

now let me tell you how harmonize is an obnoxious spell

but it it’s a one-point spell it requires you to overcome the target’s

power but it locks them in a dance with you

they will dance with you exactly it only works on beings with the same hit locations as of

you so obviously you can’t try to harmonize with a horse but it does

force people to be locked into a dance with you if you overcome can i

dance them to death theoretically cool

the problem is if they’re injured you feel the pain too fine that’s how the spell works well

that’s a stupid spell it’s pretty darned useful i believe

that’s designed i think that’s a a greg and steve um effort to make sure people don’t

abuse the spell exactly the way that he sounds a bit like it

how do we replenish hero points now that’s the tough thing they replenish the same way as the rune points but you

or at least the heroic you needs to be part it needs to be what’s worshipped so the

easiest way is for you to go in and try to persuade your temple

to include your deeds as part of of your cult in other words

turning you into a subcult hero of your of your local temple

could we use dolls of ourselves to get magic points replenished not

power power points replenished right that they yeah yeah that

that’s a way of making sure that you don’t have to physically be present once you’ve managed to convince

all the Humakt temples in dragon pass to have a little shrine to Garan grim

seeming hero of Humakt that’s certainly a way to to make that maximize for you but right

now what you need to do is is for you to be able to popularize

your deeds in such a manner that people are willing to sacrifice magic points to you and have a worship

ceremony about the deeds of Garan grim seeming now the reason i say it’s way easier to

do this as part of your temple is it’s a lot easier to convince your fellow

worshipers to worship the deeds that you have done in Humakt’s honor

and whatnot then to get a whole bunch of people to just worship Garan

right well i’m definitely gonna be sacrificing some some power i but yes it is a pain especially at the

early stages of of a heroic career it’s quite difficult to get these back um

if you’ve noticed our graph gets you know you guys are worshiping the white bull all the time what do you have to wait

now you mentioned it you even you guys set up independently in your own right a temple

13 is the next break point so Garan for example went down below that he won’t get any bonus for a high

where i get actually the bonus because otherwise i would have to change my character

sheet which i am not looking forward to well eventually it’s all going to be on

the computer and you’re just going to be able to click a button thank you you’re promising me that for a while now
