i just thought this was a a cool overview here this is kind of the scene um coming

towards baltimore it’s below freezing it’s snowing a little bit um and

bald home is is in these high mountains so you can see a little bit of a valley

here and you’re coming here um and and coming to the city on the day

of the most important holy day of the Orlanth cult and bolt home is the

center of the Orlanth cult in dragon pass so you know that the things that you do

when you enter boldhome will have magical significance

in what it is that you all plan to do for for Argrath uh and so

prior to starting the session i know that there’s been some discussions in planning here and i think we want to

to um continue a little bit with what your plan is because the first thing you have to

do um upon entering into bullet home is present yourself to the prince

with all these gifts you’re not going to be able to sneak your way into the city with a h a herd of a hundred cattle uh a bunch of

warriors um without presenting yourself to the prince this is

you know you’re gonna have to do that and it i’m sure that’s what your characters have already been planning on

doing but how you do that what gifts you present what you say to her um and how you frame

this will likely because you’re doing this on a high holy day

right a magically charged day anyways will have an effect on what you try to

do in the hero quest that is going to be starting in just a couple weeks

so with that i’m going to turn it over to you all unless anybody has any questions

well i think we’ll get them as we go i’m sure we’ll have lots of questions so

so last we you all were were talking you had the idea that

um the the lightbringer’s quest that she’s performing is likely gonna be

based on the traditional sacred time rituals and on the eight sacred time is a two week period

that occurs at the end of the year and before the
3:56
beginning of the year so it’s kind of this magical period between the normal uh between the normal

year when there’s all sorts of magical activities that go on to uh regenerate

the world and carry it forward into another year and that’s the coming of spring jeff really isn’t it

it’s the coming of spring yes it’s the the end of winter the coming of spring uh it’s the rebirth of the world and

it’s a two-week fest uh festival and series of of magical events and

on the eighth day of this the um the person during these ceremonies

that represents orland and along with orlanth’s lightbringer companions

faces three challenges and so there’s been discussion that that

given that Argrath wants you all to magically test caller and determine whether she’s uh

worthy of it this would be the place to do it because it’s

it is actually a point in these rituals where the the person carrying out the

the orlan thrall is supposed to get challenged

and so the discussions have been how can you make sure that you all are

the ones that give her the challenges and what should those challenges be does

that sound about does that characterize what the discussions have been yeah and then how to get the role for we’ve got a pretty

good idea of what we can do for a number of people like um gina who’s going to you know be as unearthed queen as a

sorry i’m going to earth queen death queen death death green and Garan is humont

and for the spirit but um we could have been caller but for coal brass and Nisk it’s a bit more challenging

i’m having this megalomaniac moment thinking why not jump then ask arachna solar at

the end of the devil that’s that’s the very very

end of uh of the ceremony and of course it should be worth mentioning that if

you participate in this this um ritual even as the challenger

you’re participating in the ritual yeah and so you’ll be brought into the that you’ll be part of her

hero quest even if you’re kept as people that are something of an

adversary yeah yeah and our mission from

our growth is to challenge her not to injure her but to test her as as much as possible

because if she can’t withstand our tests she doesn’t deserve any being called prince

it did voice the concern of not being able to control the powers that would be

unleashed also which of course might just be him packing it in nicely

but um he fears she is not aware of what forces

and powers she will be awakening which is a bit strange because the lightbringers quest has been performed

several times so what’s new well normally it is performed this is a

good question normally it’s performed every year in a very ceremonial

stage crafted way but it has not been performed um

in any sort of big magical way in a long time i mean

um whenever your people talk about the lightbringer’s quest being done by somebody

they’re almost always talking about a hero harmest, harmest barefoot

who did the lightbringer’s quest more than a thousand years ago

normally when people try to do the lightbringer’s quest like harmest

did it in kind of this big magical way it fails disastrously

because it’s a very very dang um you know you to try to do it other than

the way that people do it always is very dangerous

what was the result of harmast success uh the result of harmast’s success is

harmast brought um uh our cat a

a very dangerous hero from the first age who is the nemesis of of the chaos

god gabaji and our cap was uh um

an entity capable of defeating gabaji and he did but he did it at a

terrible price um betrayed humanity to the trolls

um and and devastated entire lands in and amongst the orlanthi Arkat has

a very mixed record i mean he’s the greatest chaos fighter of all time

so Storm Bull likes him but he also sold humans out to the trolls

when humans proved to be less useful to him than the trolls

and and keep in mind trolls eat humans

trolls are darkness things uh you know selling humanity out to the trolls and he became a troll and he became a

troll or revealed himself to be a troll in the end and that was that’s what i’d do if i was

our cat so i mean i couldn’t believe them point is that’s a successful one

is is another 25 years of unbelievably destructive war so the

question that then is what is caller trying to awaken or um

gain the serial quest like i don’t think we’ve actually asked that question

what is it don’t think anybody knows no and i haven’t been a prince of sardar in

a long time generation no so i think part of her is that basically putting herself in and

confirming her as a business owner okay so what would she need to do to actually uh

ritually magically assert herself as the queen of sartar the prince of sartar yeah i think you

have to be able to light the flame which proves that you are a descendant that you’re yeah observer

that you have also house of stardom and what better way to light the flame

um if you think about lighting a fire that had been extinguished

well that’s also symbolically identical to bringing the sun back

because the sun has been extinguished because the light bringers and and again

you know these words uh a lot of glorantha uh

commentators forget that these words have very plain meaning the lightbringer lightbringer’s quest is to bring you

know that it brought the sun back into the sky from the great darkness right from the darkness and it does it

ended the darkness lighting the flame of sartar does that sound symbolically similar

you know the flame of sardar has been extinguished for a generation uh being able and so
11:43
the way a lot of magic works is of course similar things are similar
11:50
and so a lightbringer’s quest is similar to relighting a extinguished
11:57
flame and so that that would be uh sympathetic magic

what if she’s trying to light it permanently or something with the with the pole star which is never

extinguished out of the sky i’m just i’m just like thinking what’s she doing because why is she bringing

the pole star into this there has to be significance and she’s trying something majorly new

so well and for people that don’t understand what this discussion about the star the the
12:29
pole star uh is on all of this pretty much what everybody in sartar

knows Kallyr starbrow as the prince of sartar the pole star queen of the kelden tribe

um she was um she’s from the cr the the kelton tribe and was is a
12:50
great of one of the princes of sartar saranel she has
12:57
heroquested to gain powers directly from the pole star and a star adorns her forehead

that’s the reason that she’s called starbrow she has a star on her brow and that’s people

that um it’s known that that is somehow tied to the pole star
13:19
so can she shoot laser beams out of her star from her forehead does anybody have a relationship with uh

Kallyr starbrow is anybody fought on her side i believe not

so what is our plan to get our 100 beasts and other present gifts

into the city well we we announce our presence as emissaries and i’m going to say that i’m going to use

some rune magic because my goal hope is that i will get rematch back and i will cast charisma which is a rune

spell with extension so that i’m able to basically keep it going and not have to worry about it

during for the conversation for the basically the until um sacred time

i take that back until the holy day is done because otherwise they don’t get the magic back

i have a different idea i could ask in the temple because they have their own stables fields and whatever

for a fee i’m pretty sure we can also put our animals there in canada and give these

they’re they’re for Kallyr right we’re just going to give them we’re just going to make sure that we make a big presence we go in and

show them if we if we ride up the main street

with 100 cows at the front you know trumpeting you know we are the

emissaries of Argrath that’s going to be there but you do not get them upset

how do you get them upset details details okay

as long as the guards come and they claim and they recognize us and because you know they’re gonna have to bring like a a big guy for that

you know we’ll get their honor that they will agree to do it in that i mean these are

you know it’s going to be they’re going to have they’re not going to have some little food there take it as we go through because

they’re not going to want us to come in or we have to prove where we are coming in okay but i i like someone mentioned

before we started recording that we should really gift that tooth in a spectacularly

so what dragon waking way there’s two sets of gifts right to me there’s gifts that you’re giving

for the hero question and the gifts that you’re giving for the personal gifts and i would give the gifts that we’re giving

towards the hero quest specifically the shield i think the dragon tooth and that we offer those kind of separately

so that we have a better opportunity to be more involved in the ritual yeah okay

you could maybe even present the gift during the ritual at an inopportune

moment i think it’s even better right let’s present the gift of the shield of the shield of that that could be really

interesting i i just want to throw out a a nagging doubt that some characters

might have is would she be more likely to accept

a gift a strange gift as she’s performing her hero quest or is she more likely to accept

a strange gift um from people that have shown up

previously to this and i want to also emphasize today is orlan’s hike holy day so it’s a

magically charged day regardless

and you’re you’re you’re saying week third you think there may be concerns and you know uh people tend to get paranoid about

gifts on the hero quest during a hero quest because everybody knows during a hero quest i’m

just letting i’m telling you guys stuff that your characters might know that you all don’t in all of the stories

people are people get very nervous about being forgiven but we want her to get nervous that’s

the whole point we we have to test her in some way and one way is to to make her know

absolutely about her role in the hero question and i mean arbeth told us you know don’t worry about uh actually accept

the gifts so they’re not he doesn’t really india can he just wants us to use the gifts

maybe we do give away because that will be you know it’s it’s a pretty amazing

shield and who it’s from and if she likes it enough she would she may use it um but of her own choice but accepting

it now will help identify yeah but if we give it to her now it certainly won’t be in the ritual i could

imagine because it’s no i mean that’s the challenge or if she wants to move now or she wants to play

yeah but if she wants to play or be all anthem ritual she can’t run around with opposed song

and the other way is to basically sneak it into the arming of orlanth ritual

which is part of an early part of the i mean that is another alternative bit

and it okay so part of what goes on that you all are doing in this hero quest to

ex to explain to anybody watching this is there is a a desire

to get caller to identify herself strongly as pole star am i am i

doing that is that you guys plan yes and the idea is that if she’s pull star

well Orlanth is not a star so you’re basically setting things up to be

to to have her be fairly weak when you challenge her because she’s going to be on she’s going

yeah that’s a big point yeah he’s actually totally contrary to

exactly so you have these gifts and some of these gifts can really trip her up and strengthen

her association with things that orland is not the question is

what’s the best way of of giving it to her you know the worst thing that could happen is you could offer her the shield

and she could say i do not accept this because i am not a star

and then which would be weird because she has a star on her brother exactly so she can’t say that no that’s

i mean it’s a hero quest she might actually lose the star if she denies the star we could also

i mean if you think about it i would say that the people doing the arming of Orlanth may be in a

they are not going to be as challenging and they’re not expecting you know as much concern about their
20:22
role so it actually might make a lot of sense to try and smug i wouldn’t say but have her given that

shield during the arming of borland so you’re going to hold back some of the gifts i’m i’m tempted to i think it’s a you

know i think it’s a bigger bet but it’s a much bigger reward if she’s wandering around in the underworld art with that shield

and and again to anybody watching this part of the discussion the players have had about this um hero

quest is it’s almost a heist scenario uh with people trying to set things up so

that yes so that that that caller cons herself

and i think that’s very mythically correct with uh with great stories so you guys tell me

because you’re up you’re you’ve headed up the the the winding paved road

and by the way it’s a paved road Enkala paved very strange your high llama

is so happy it’s saying clip club was walking up oh it’s so comfortable this is a

paved road going up um twisting back and forth its way

up the cliff um to the valley of both home and you know you’re heading high

up into the mountains bold home itself is is over 1400 meters above sea level

so and this is uh this is late storm season it’s below freezing

and it’s snowing slightly so you know think about going up to um somewhere in the alps in some valley

in in austria or switzerland at about 1400 meters in march

colder than a minor crop as i hate it it is much colder than necropolis it’s it’s even though it’s it’s only a few

degrees below freezing um you know there’s there’s snow here and the

peaks these mountains are big and impressive and Garan you’re a sardorite

you can’t help but feel good about this Nisk it’s been a long time since this kind of

country i don’t remember it well am asking aubor for my very

warm black fur coat and and cobras is it

is it better again pogo she healed him i hear him oh yes

i i need a shelana roy temple to get him properly in shape but he’s definitely missing a limb isn’t he

yeah i thought he was still not not well but i mean you

he really needs some trauma help as well because that guy has been so abused he’s like the tragic hero of the

entire story of his own book you write a novel yeah so

oh i’m i’m happy because that’s like only on the high seas when the weather is getting very interesting and

dad and mom used to tell you what what the weather was like in the

i would say but bold home is an impressive in imposing an impressive

site and are we ready to actually enter it or do you guys need some more thought well

i get the only question for me is i’ll recite the five items and let’s talk about which ones we

give and if anybody thinks we should get one later um because i think the giving giving the

gifts all the animals now make sense right because they don’t want to be

troubled with them either yeah that’s probably a lot of it um in terms of that

but you know it’s it’s a big herd it shows a lot of wealth it’s something that she is probably not

going to refuse at all there’s no reason to and it doesn’t make sense to try and give it later

so we have a copper scythe we have an egg made of iron we have an iron measuring rod given to

him by the flint nail temple we have the shield which we said we’re not going to give and then we’ve got a piece of obsidian that looks like a

tooth it’s supposed to be a dragon’s tooth it’s a dragon’s tooth

and i would give number five laugh the dragon tooth last but i would give it now because it helps

me define this being given as um is you know it’s from Argrath

and i mean is there any special significance in the other items

apart from the shield and that seems the most obvious but the others don’t i mean you think the

dragon i think the dragon’s tooth is is just defining a gift from the dragon lord yeah

but the the copper stick of the rna can be the dwarven measuring rod is

i i don’t know doesn’t really know is it does the egg mythically consider what is the question

do you have any idea about significance of the the other three gifts well i i i can look at this and i can

say that if i give her the iron measuring rod it is you could argue that that’s like it’s something for hand it’s

it’s a flint nail temple which is the dwarfs it’s an item of um structure and order

and you could even go back of and you know you you wield the iron measuring ward um just as an emperor would wield and

give out meet up justice like you could challenge it as kind of playing it that way of a status line if

you want it if it’s if it’s sorry if it’s tied to the underworld

is that not is it too obviously kind of um the measuring rod what do you mean

sorry uh flint nails it’s it the subterranean stuff i don’t think it’s under the i don’t

think the most all your underworld okay but um the runes this is worth

thinking about one of the runes that dwarves are most strongly associated

with is that is this is status rune isn’t it yeah which is what kind of rooney is the

flip it’s the reverse of the movement room which is one of orlando’s maintenance

which is also then opposed to any kind of change it could probably

it could probably like just use that measuring rod it’s an emphasis of like the status of

pole star remaining in the sky but we wouldn’t say that now we would just no no yeah and it can be used later

now we can be gifted as showing you the path like a good thing it’s a measuring rod

so it’s like a guaranteed length it’s like you know if you think of how many cubits by how many cubits this is

else in the story um and i’m just wondering if any of these items could

be used to just insinuate that and i’m thinking yes i’m thinking particularly an iron

egg very tied to earthenness and kind of opposed to sun and sky might be a

particularly good one but eggs are bird animals too that’s the other option

you’ve got the you know historically i can’t remember the iron brock right is the sun worshiping is is a name maybe it’s a penguin egg

the point is it wouldn’t be able to fly so you know that would be better but you’re right i mean we could definitely use that we could use these

later as we as just if she accepts them as identifying even if she doesn’t want to

um don’t just think we need to stop the copper size i mean sides are what they’re a symbol of

copper one would be like a symbol of a harvest or it would be um i don’t know if there

are lunar connotations so how this is the kind of the opposite

of spring and rebirth which is a positive for us

and it’s death too obviously and death yeah although whether that that particular

symbolism holds up in glorantha i’m not sure yeah it’s also a symbol the site is

um the harvesting scythe is also a symbol associated with the grain goddesses not with orland

it’s an agricultural harvesting thing as opposed to a sword or a thunderbolt or a lightning

bolt or a dragon’s head i think it’s a bit of far-fetched to to

identify her as something like that because she’s caller herself is very far from it and

it wouldn’t be believable in a way in the story i think we’d have to find another way to use this guy than thinking harvest because it’s too

peaceful too we’re going to cast her as we’re going to cast her at if we can do

it as um that’s pole star right yeah so it’s a warrior

you know warrior but it’s from the sky and we don’t have to you know we can talk about sun beating down on the

harvest or something if we wanted to do that but it’s a symbol of grain it’s not a it’s a symbol of that of

a fixed agriculture but it could also not be i mean we look at i mean everything has to be that right a scythe

can be a weapon i mean wall sides are common enough weapons so if we and we

we kind of counterpoint that with the fact that you know all length is the

sword that certainly i think that’s uh i think that’s something because i think i think

uh and carla linda’s point about you know yeah we don’t want to we want to make

this relatively subtle i think so it doesn’t come out as though we’re watching in there going guess who you are in the store

anyway when the ritual starts right so that’s certainly the way she’s going to

track it the way she’s going to drive it and she may not get this is why we’re

just going to give them as items as gifts you know with a brief description of what they are

but a description nonetheless without to without any of this preamble right we’re not going to cast a rocket

use the words when we do it or any of those pieces could we in fact even um to a certain

degree disguise the true nature of the objects by describing them slightly

differently when we give them to her i don’t think i mean i don’t think we do that without Garan being present

obviously although i mean that’s not the kind of comment i appreciate but i should definitely i don’t know if

we need to i mean they’re pretty they’re all pretty obvious what they are it’s happening

jeff isn’t here at the moment so he’ll be really surprised when we do it i think just for that it would be fun

here is the iron pick of the giants we took exploring the giants

so we could invent some descriptions for these things which actually

make her think that we support her as Orlanth in the ritual

i should definitely not be there for that it’s not combat Garan no but i am i am nothing if not

honorable and that kind of deception as brilliantly cunning as it is

it’s a joke it’s you know it’s a it’s a practice it’s a prank it’s some fun for holidays but it could

actually be fun but that could actually harm Garan’s honor uh challenge later in the

he has game honor points i mean if he loses one more then

i don’t see the problem i i mean what’s a hundred once i went down to 95 hanging around with

you guys yeah and and it shows you know you’ve been far less honorable these last few

weeks

just it’s just my dear you know no i think it’s a great idea i’m not sure of how we would how would

we would be able to spin it except we could have a story of what it is yeah okay have you guys figured out your

gifts are we ready to move forward we’re gonna basically give everything but the shield okay and the shield will be we’re going

to try and inject that in um and find out who the people are going to basically be for the giving of it

all right so let’s let’s dive into this because i want us to be able to at the very least be move a little bit

given what we’re trying to do from a contest perspective and i will do that so oh my god so what

his charisma is such that because it doubles his charisma

and his charisma is high to begin with so basically he’s got this

he’s got a pretty much what a halo of awesomeness around him i mean you

an a grade rock star you’re basically it’s you know it’s it’s

kind of like mick jagger uh walking into a room it’s that that that kind of thing where

he you’ve just got so much charisma going on that you can generally get your

way through things as long as it’s not really important to stop you yep

and that’s how i handle for for the sake of it really really high charisma it doesn’t

mean everybody’s going to do whatever you say even if it’s against your their interests or whatnot but it’s like

dealing with a rock star you’re going to get your way

unless it’s really important for them not to let you get your way and and people will remember him oh yes

there should be no less right it’s perfect it’s perfect it’s just certain aspects of our um
