In the Rockwoods there was a giant who sought to challenge the storm gods and conquer the skies. With an army of lesser giants, he crushed human villages and temples and then climbed to the mountains to fight Orlanth, brandishing trees as maces and hurling stones into the air.
The Thunderer hurled lightning at the giant and his army and slew them all. When they died they turned to stone, which is why the mountains are littered with huge rock formations.
