Civilized Prax population numbers

Posted on July 16, 2022

As I am doing some Prax editing, I thought some numbers might be worth posting. These are population numbers in Civilized Prax, mind you.

There are just under 26k humans in Pavis County, with 5150 in New Pavis and 1500 in the Big Rubble. Most of the rest are farmers.

In Sun County, there are about 19k humans.

In the former Grantlands, there are about 10k humans. About half of those are riverfolk and folk clustered around Corflu. The rest are settlements scattered throughout the lower River of Cradles.

There are also about 15k members of the White Bull cult. Now many of them are scattered throughout Prax but they tend to cluster around the White Bull (who is currently in Pavis). These are almost all members of warrior cults – Storm Bull, Waha, and Orlanth – and have great influence on those cults in Prax. Given that Jaldon Goldentooth is also at Argrath’s side, the White Bull is given a lot of deference even by those Praxians who are not associated with the cult.

In theory, Argrath has enough military force to do what he wants in Prax, but he and the White Bull cult are focused on Dragon Pass, not Sun County and the Grantlands. Provide them with foodstuffs, let the nomad herds graze in the rich valley bottom, and you probably have little to worry about other than the occasional small raid by non-White Bull Praxians.

Corflu does get taken by Argrath’s warriors in early 1625, so most likely Sun County, and the various Grantland settlements make their deals with the White Bull as his army goes down and then up the Zola Fel.

Corflu ends up with a small mercenary garrison who hate the place every bit as much as their Lunar predecessors did.
