I was wondering if the Sartar Kingdom of Heroes and Pavis Gateway to Adventure books for Heroquest are difficult to use for Runequest 6…. Also I would like to see a forum heading here for Runequest!!!

    basically:

HeroQuest – No stats. You’d have to sort that out yourself for RQ6.
RuneQuest6 – No Gloranthan content, so no tie in to the setting.
RQ6 – No Gloranthan cults. You’d have to figure out something.

I’d say you’d have you work cut out for you. You might consider waiting for Adventures in Glorantha from the Design Mechanism. Or asking if someone has done the work already.

Thanks, and thanks for giving Runequest its own forum!! I decided to go ahead and pick up the books since they seem to have a lot of useful information about Glorantha in them anyhow…

Thwre is some work but can be done – doing it at the moment. I gathered some resources that I found out in Design Mechanism forums and perhaps from other sources in to my blog http://notesfrompavis.wordpress.com/2013/08/12/runequest-6-and-resources/ So stats can possibly be had by the enemy editor and some editing of the results. Spells for cults from the two sources mentioned on the blog. These will help quite a bit.

Hi Carcosa! I only speak from personal experience; I have not had any significant problems when using any of the material in the Moon Design Publications books. They are all superb, and I would suggest picking them up!

Your biggest concerns are going to be magic and religion; until Design Mechanism releases “Adventures in Glorantha” here is how my group approaches things: Common Magic-no big change here. Mysticism-only the Kralori get to use Mysticism, unless your character was “trained in Kralorela” or is Kralori. Animism-no change here either, and oh my, is Animism fun. Sorcery-again, no changes are really necessary. Theism-here is the big boy; for now, we are using the Theism system as written in RQ6, and while it’s a little different from earlier editions of RQ, in practice, we haven’t hit any real bumps. A lot of the Gloranthan cults can be modeled from the example deities right out of the RQ6 rulebook. Theistic magicians can expect to have some trouble when far from their centers of worship, so set players’ expectations accordingly.

I would not let any of this discourage you picking up Sartar: KoH, the Sartar Companion, or Pavis:GtA. All three are excellent, full of ideas, and it’s not hard at all to convert stat over to RQ6.

    semi related question:

Im also a RQ6 player so no interest in the HQ stuff in the book so whilst there is a campaign in there how does it do as a general Sartar source book?

As HQ is ‘stats lite’, only a tiny fraction of the books are HQ specific.

The books are absolute worth every Lunar spent! I also play RQ and all the HQ2 setting books are valuable resources.

The campaigns/scenarios are a bit complicated to convert as you have to create all stats for NPCs by yourself and have to find matching Passions/Skill checks for the HQ contests.

I could be wrong, but I recall that there was discussion indicating that the Design Mechanism were planning on releasing collections of stat blocks for existing Moon Design books…e.g., the NPC’s in the Colymar campaign. As their release schedule seems to have intensified lately, and RuneQuest: Adventures in Glorantha has been bumped up on their schedule so its release more closely coincides with the Guide, I’m not sure when-or if-this will ever happen.

We’re hoping to make it happen. DM and MD had many vey positive discussion as to how to increase the Glorantha/RQ6 synergy. Its simply been a lack of time that has prevented us from doing the Stat Packs sooner (that, and, of course, we need both the GtG and AiG to do it right).

    But its on the radar.

Thanks for the update Loz! I know you and Pete are slammed; just remember, you have a whole bunch of RQ/Gloranthaphiles chomping at the bit, so we might complain, but it’s a good complaining!

Many of the stats could be possibly generated by http://ouropa.planeetta.com/rq_tools/enemygen/ the rq6 encounter generator either by using some of the existing templates or rolling your own template, There are constantly new templates being created for Glorantha but also for other settings. For Glorantha because most of the current contibutors run a Glorantha campaign. For Monster Island as well as some of the current contributors are fitting that to Glorantha. Many of the enemy stats can be used on any world. if you want hand crafted you could use the template and tune away or wait for the stats pak. As there are things that we do not yet know about AiG and cults there are some interpretations… But your Glorantha may vary. when AiG comes out the templates will very likely be tuned to fit that reality.

Also you can adapt existing templates a bit to cater for differing tastes or playing styles.
