ok recently picked up RQ6 and aim to running some stuff in Glorantha in the future. I was wondering on what other folks would use for cultural weapons in Sartar. I am wondering on weapons used by Carls and Cottars as well as Thanes. Also how much would the religious leanings of a clan affect this.
Looking forward to seeing folks opinions
October 24, 2013 at 9:59 pm #6123David ScottKeymasterFull details on cultural weapons are covered in Sartar:Kingdom of Heroes page 32 Weapons and Armor. Clan military and their weapons is covered on page 63. In the character generation section, it tells us about
Huscarls:
Quote:You know how to use a sword or axe as well as the commoner’s weapon, the spear. You can use a javelin, sling or bow and arrow to kill your enemies at a distance.
…
You might have been a foot soldier wielding a two-handed axe or long spear, or you might have been an archer or slinger. Rarely, you are a cavalryman who learned to fight with a mounted spear or bow from horseback.Thanes:
Quote:You are trained in the sword, the spear, the javelin and the bow. You can fight equally well from foot or from horseback. You are given the best weapons and armor the clan can provide: swords, chainmail, metal helmet, and heavy shield.Under the Tribes of Sartar section starting on page 228, it says about the Locaem tribe
Quote:The “Spear Tribe” is the common name for the Locaem. Their weapon of choice is the spear; even the tribe’s Humakti prefer spear to sword.Everything you need to know is covered in Sartar:Kingdom of Heroes. It is a HeroQuest book, but the rules are very light and the background very complete.

Orlanthi Frydman
Weapons: Battleaxe, Knife, Hatchet, Shortspear, Target shield, Javelin and Sling.
Traits: None or depending on the clanOrlanthi Hunter
Weapons: Battleaxe, Dagger, Knife, Hatchet, Shortspear, Target shield, Javelin, Short Bow and Sling.
Traits: None or depending on the clanOrlanthi Thane
Weapons: Battleaxe, Broadsword, Dagger, Knife, Hatchet, Shortspear, Shortsword, Hoplite shield, Target shield, Great axe (?), Longspear (?), Javelin, Short bow and Sling.
Traits: None or depending on the clanImproving to Thane Combat Style
It is possible to improve the Combat Style from Frydman or Hunter to Thane by using the standard Training rules to learn a new Professional skill, but instead of learning an additional Combat Style it simply changes the Frydman or Hunter Style to the Thane Style, automatically learning the new weapons to the level of the old weapons.Notes
TODO: The Styles have normally no Trait. I’m not 100% sure if this is correct, but I have no idea what I should give them as a standard trait.
TODO: For the weapons with a ?, I’m not 100% sure if they fit.
TODO: I would also like to have a two handed sword in the Thane list, but I don’t see any fitting one.
TODO: I’m not sure what to do for Huscarls, but I think I would start with Frydman and would allow to increase it to Thane during character creation.October 25, 2013 at 10:00 am #6126NiallSpectatorPage 30 0f Wyrms footnotes 15, has a list of all the weapons of the different people found in Sartar.
October 25, 2013 at 10:01 am #6127NiallSpectatorSome examples:
Axe Orlanthi: Spear, Axe, Javelin.
Dark Orlanthi: Club or mace, sling, Javelin.December 10, 2013 at 4:10 am #6353David CakeSpectatorShield Wall is the appropriate trait for most Fyrdmen, I think.
For Thanes, it might be Intimidating Shout.
For anyone less of a trained warrior than a Fyrdman, it is Skirmisher.December 10, 2013 at 7:01 pm #6362Hannu KokkoSpectatorThis seems to be close to what we are trending towards in the Google+ forum for Glorantha.
Rq6 Combat style traits suggestion for Sartarite tribes
Fyrdmen get to pick a style with two of the following.
Fyrdmen: Skirmishing (All have), Shield Wall or Formation fighting either of which is at a lower percentage than Skirmishing. Most of the fights happen by ambushes and skirmishing.Thanes get to pick three styles each with one of the following
Most common options: Skirmishing, Intimidating Scream, Mounted Combat Less common: Batter Aside, Swashbuckling
Poljoni will always have Beastback Lancer or Mounted Combat
Lismelder might have Water Combat
Durulz will have Ranged Marksman and/or Skirmishing.
