Is an evocation created from a Lunar cult’s non-Moon Rune runes such as the Seven Mothers Life and Death runes subject to Lunar Cyclism?
September 16, 2014 at 11:36 pm #10935David ScottKeymasterPavis page 403 – Lunar Evocations resemble Rune Affinities and are dependent on the Phase the kindled initiate is attuned to.
There are no non-phase evocations.
Pavis page 404 – He can use the Empty Half Rune to create glamours of Death and Darkness. These glamours are subject to the Lunar Cycle and are stretches as he is not a member of an Immortal cult.

OTOH, Pavis pg 403 and HeroQuest Glorantha preview pg 141 do say all Glamours are “tied to the waxing and waning of the Lunar Cycle,” so I guess that would cover it.
September 17, 2014 at 8:17 am #10937David ScottKeymasterI didn’t realise you were asking about all glamours, but specifically evocations. Evocations are available only from phases and not from other runes.
Generally speaking if the magic is linked to a New God, then it’s cyclic. The only exception is sorcery, if a grimoire has no Lunar connection then it’s not cyclic. If it contains even one lunar linked spell it’s cyclic.September 23, 2014 at 10:16 am #10981David CakeSpectatorTo clarify and rephrase, I took the question to be asking not really about evocations, but to essentially be : if an initiate of a Lunar cult uses a rune other than the Moon Rune to create magic, such as an initiate of the Seven Mothers using the Life or Death runes as a rune affinity (as descibed on Pavis pg 398), or an initiate of one of the Little Sister cults, is that magic Lunar cyclical?
The rules in Pavis do seem to imply that only magic that uses the Moon Rune (of whatever phase, or whether it is an Evocation, Lunar Grimoire, or Lune) is controlled by the cyclic.September 23, 2014 at 2:46 pm #10984Mark MohrfieldSpectatorTo clarify and rephrase, I took the question to be asking not really about evocations, but to essentially be : if an initiate of a Lunar cult uses a rune other than the Moon Rune to create magic, such as an initiate of the Seven Mothers using the Life or Death runes as a rune affinity (as descibed on Pavis pg 398), or an initiate of one of the Little Sister cults, is that magic Lunar cyclical?
Yes, that’s what I was asking. Part of the problem seems to be that just what the magic gained by Lunar cults from their non-lunar runes isn’t specified anyewhere (or did I miss it?). IF they are Glamours, then they are probably subject to cyclism as per page 141. If they are affinities, it’s less clear.
September 27, 2014 at 3:10 am #11019David CakeSpectatorThe magic gained by Seven Mothers initiates from their non-Lunar Runes is specified on pg 398 of the Pavis book – while there is a somewhat confusing section about the additional runes associated with the individual Mothers, there are clear descriptions of the magic available from the Life or Death runes.
September 27, 2014 at 2:01 pm #11023Mark MohrfieldSpectatorI meant it that was not specified if the magic granted from the Death and Life runes were glamours, affinities or something else.
