In HeroQuest Glorantha, p.142, Odayla is listed with the Movement and the Bear rune.
In the Sartar Companion Odayla has a full cult description with setting the rune affinities to Air and Bear (p. 279).Is this an intentional change, or a mistake, which should go into the HQG errata?
July 17, 2015 at 2:29 am #16676Harald SmithSpectatorI don’t see a reference on HQG p55 to Odayla (nor does the index show one). P.142 shows Air and Beast which would be the correct runes (Bear is just a specialized version of Beast so either is correct).
July 17, 2015 at 7:04 am #16679Didier WeySpectatorSame problem with Yinkin : HQG p. 143, shows Movement and Beast for Yinkin. The cult writeup of Yinkin (S:KoH p.179 and sq.) shows Yinkin rune as the only one rune affinity. And the Yinkin rune is early described as a “combination of Air and Beast” (S:KoH p.72).
Ty Kora Tek runes are Death, Darkness and Fate in HQG p.142 while they are Earth and Death in S:KoH p. 111.
For Sartar, S:KoH p. 111 shows only Sartar rune (wich is consistant with the Colymar Campaign little surprise), while HQG p.142 shows Movement and Mastery as Sartar’s runes.
And so on… Are we Gregged again ? :pBesides the background point of view (Sartar own rune could be seen as a combination of Movement and Mastery, just like Bear (Odayla) rune is a combination of Air and Beast…), those “variants” could be a big issue for players because of the importance of rune affinities for characters.
July 17, 2015 at 9:18 am #16681Paul WSpectatorHrm. I’ve started on a list of gods and their runes for used in my own campaigns, largely using Guide to Glorantha as a starting point (which has Death, Earth and Fate for Ty Kora Tek).
July 17, 2015 at 2:09 pm #16682OracleSpectatorSorry, my mistake. The Odayla reference in HeroQuest Glorantha is on page 142.
I’ve corrected the above entry accordingly.
(The page 55 reference was from an excerpt, I’ve created for my players …)July 17, 2015 at 2:36 pm #16683OracleSpectatorFor me, I think, the solution is in Paul’s answer: use the Guide to Glorantha as the definitive reference. As Jeff Richard already mentioned in several threads the Guide to Glorantha is the source, which describes everything canon. So I followed that lead and found on p. 152: Odayla with Air and Beast rune (the last one a generalization of the Bear rune from Sartar: Kingdom of Heroes).
That means another typesetting error detected in HeroQuest Glorantha :-).
July 17, 2015 at 6:25 pm #16685Steve HammattSpectatorOracle, both my hard copy and PDF copy of HQ:G have Air and Beast on p142 for Odayla. If you are looking at a PDF that has something different, I wonder if that’s an old PDF. Some early errors were corrected. Try downloading it again.
July 17, 2015 at 7:19 pm #16686OracleSpectatorSteve, you’re absolutely right, my hard copy shows the same (i.e. Air and Beast rune). In fact even my current PDF version does. It’s just the aforementioned excerpt I for my players, which has the Movement rune, so I guess I’ve created the excerpt from a different version of the PDF. Obviously I’ve got confused by too many documents.
So no typeset error at all, just my broken perception … seems I’m getting old.
Lesson learned (I hope :-)): double check, then check again. And most important: if possible check against the Guide to Glorantha.
