Most mercenaries mentioned in detail in various write ups have tended to be regiments and other large groups.
It would seem to fit both the development and scale of Glorantha that most mercenaries would be smaller company sized groups of 40 to 120 individuals, than full regiments?
Also within the larger empires do mercenary companies able to operate freely?
You are correct. Many, perhaps most, mercenary “regiments” are just collections of smaller bands under the (often temporary) leadership of a warlord, petty king, chief, or other figure. But for the sake of my sanity, I’ve generally limited myself to describing things at the regimental level.
