Earth Witch and Windstop

I notice that on page 141 of Sartar: Kingdom of Heroes it is stated that the Earth Witch is said to be able to maintain contact with Ernalda after she and her kin had been summoned to Yelm’s Court and after Orlanth took her away (not sure what this last refers to). So can members of the Earth Witch spirit tradition still access their magic during the Windstop?

I would assume yes, similar to Kolat’s ability. Probably the Earth Witches become important in aiding some clans to survive the Wind Stop.

Presumably, Orlanth taking Ernalda away is a case of “You are my wife, follow me to the Underworld”. It would have caused the Lunars a problem, but would have caused their allies, the Yelmalians, a bigger problem, as Yelmalio is married to Ernalda. I bet the Yelmalians were not very happy with the Lunars after they killed Orlanth/Ernalda.

Being taken away to Yelm’s court is qualitatively different from being sent to the Underworld. So I would say No, the Earth Witches cannot contact Ernalda.

I had initially assumed that the reference to being summoned to Yelm’s court was Ernalda’s joining him in the Underworld during the Great Darkness. I must admit to there being other interpretations.

I seem to recall that the Earth Witch could still hear/contact the thoughts/dreams of Ernalda when Ernalda slept in the Great Darkness, which should be the same case here.
