As an aside, I often post notes or things that I am working on that I think people will find interesting or useful. But I am posting this material without edits or revisions – they are all notes or works in progress. If people really expect me to edit or revise such ephemera before I post it, I am probably not going to post such things.

Orlanth art for the Cults of Glorantha

A sneak peak at one of the pieces of art for the Cults of Glorantha. It is only appropriate we start with Orlanth, Lord of Storms, King of the Gods, and Lightbringer!

    Artist, Andrey Fetisov

What’s the mythological resonance / symbolism for the vajra-looking thing Orlanth holds in his hands? the vajra is the thunderbolt, or vice versa. It actually was originally a Greek artistic convention, later adopted in Greco-Buddhist art.

Four arms. Four weapons. I mean Orlanth needs to be able to use his Thunderbolt, his Dragon Head, his Sword, and the Shield of Arran at the same time. And if he needs to throw the Lightning Spear – there’s another arm.

How big is Orlanth? He’s as big as he needs to be. He’s a god after all. And Orlanth has multiple arms as he needs them for all his weapons. Just check out Gods War.

Then there is Humakt, who is never depicted with extra arms and sometimes depicted with only one arm holding his sword up at a right angle.

    Game night! Proof of concept

We just performed a heroquest to repair the first Chaos nest and killed a lot of broo. But man this game is vicious!

    Sartarite meal

I am about to have a good Sartarite meal courtesy of the amazing Claudia Loroff!

The bread is made of Emmer and Barley (so very Dragon Pass). The veggies are from our garden, and the knife is from Bibracte!

The sausages are wild boar, deer, and pig!

Sartarites have barley and beans, no potatoes. But they do have access to chilis and others (especially through trade with Esrolia). The staple crops are einkorn and emmer, although barley is also often grown.

And the meal was magnificent. One thing about this sort of bread – it is made with sour dour yeast (as modern yeast doesn’t yet exist), so it is gloriously heavy bread – a few slices go a long way. And wild boar sausage is much fattier than pig. And don’t worry – there was plenty of lard to go on the bread. The ham is smoked Sudtiroler which we think is common in Dragon Pass. A shame the Sartarites drink mainly white wine, because a good Vinavale red would have worked nicely.

Sartar grows good white wine, but the good red wine comes from the Holy Country. Lunar wine is terrible – they make it out of rice!
